Florida State shocked Alabama 31-17 in one of the weekend\u2019s biggest upsets. The Seminoles controlled the game with a dominant rushing attack, piling up more than 230 yards while holding the Tide under 100. Quarterback Thomas Castellanos proved dynamic, balancing efficiency with explosiveness. Even more encouraging was the physicality and competitive edge shown by Mike Norvell\u2019s squad, something missing during last year\u2019s struggles. The Gators cruised past Long Island in a 55-0 shutout. Sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway completed 15 of 18 passes for three touchdowns, while the defense added an early scoop-and-score. It was a complete effort with minimal mistakes, the kind Billy Napier will need ahead of a brutal stretch that includes LSU, Miami, and Texas.<\/p>\n

Miami also delivered in primetime, edging Notre Dame 27-24. Carson Beck managed the game well, and freshman receiver Malachi Tony provided highlight moments. Mario Cristobal\u2019s squad showed clear defensive improvement under new coordinator Corey Heatherman, raising hopes the Hurricanes can contend in the ACC.<\/p>\n

USF, UCF, and FIU Make Noise in Week 2<\/h2>\n

USF opened Labor Day weekend with a statement of its own, dominating Boise State 34-7. Quarterback Byron Brown combined passing efficiency with two rushing touchdowns, though head coach Alex Golesh\u2019s risky fourth-down call in his own territory was less inspiring. UCF began the Scott Frost 2.0 era with a hard-fought 17-10 win over Jacksonville State, while FIU rolled past Bethune-Cookman 42-9 before preparing for a tough trip to Penn State.<\/p>\n
