Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for February 3rd featuring Syd Howe<\/a>.

Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n

Syd Howe Tallies Six Goals<\/h3>\n

1944:<\/strong> The Detroit Red Wings<\/a> forward totals six goals in a 12-2 rout of the New York Rangers<\/a> at the Olympia. Howe scores two goals in each of the three periods while Don Grosso<\/a> assists on five of those goals.<\/p>\n

Howe is the first player to score six goals in a game since Cy Denneny<\/a><\/span> of the Ottawa Senators<\/a> on March. 7, 1921<\/span>. Only Red Berenson<\/a> and Darryl Sittler<\/a> have scored six in a game<\/a> since Howe did.<\/p>\n

Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n

1968:<\/strong> Jean Beliveau<\/a> gets a goal and two assists as the Montreal Canadiens<\/a> win their 12th straight game. The Habs get their team record in a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings<\/a>.<\/p>\n

1977: <\/b>Richie Hansen<\/a> is the first Long Island native to get a goal for the hometown New York Islanders<\/a>. The goal is part of the Isles’ 6-3 victory over the rival Rangers.<\/span><\/p>\n

1982:<\/b> Grant Mulvey<\/a><\/span> becomes the first player in Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> history to score five goals in a game<\/span>. He hits the milestone in a 9-5 victory over the St. Louis Blues<\/a> and ties Max Bentley<\/a>‘s mark of seven points in a game.<\/p>\n

1998:<\/strong> Florida Panthers<\/a> forward Dino Ciccarelli<\/a> becomes the ninth player to get 600 career goals. His third-period goal helps the Panthers salvage a 1-1 tie with the Red Wings, who were once of this former teams.<\/p>\n

1999:<\/strong> The Washington Capitals<\/a> score eight goals in a 9:34 stretch in a 10-1 rout of the Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a>. Peter Bondra<\/a> scores twice in 35 seconds and three in 4:47 during the barrage of goals.<\/p>\n

2000:<\/strong> Bob Pulford<\/a> becomes the first person to coach in and play 800 career NHL games. Pulford and the Blackhawks play to a 5-5 tie with the Calgary Flames<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2015:<\/strong> The Buffalo Sabres<\/a> snap a 14-game losing streak with a 3-2 win at Montreal. Drew Stafford<\/a>, Matt Moulson<\/a><\/span> and Brian Gionta<\/a><\/span> score first-period goals while Jhonas Enroth<\/a> stops 32 shots. The slide was one shy of the 15-game streak the 1930-31 Philadelphia Quakers suffered.<\/p>\n

2019:<\/strong> Boston Bruins<\/a> goalie Tuukka Rask<\/a> becomes the winningest goalie in team history with his 253rd win. He passes Tiny Thompson<\/a> after making 24 saves in a 1-0 win over Washington.<\/span><\/p>\n
