Last Word on Hockey is still going to look back at each date\u2019s historical significance to the game. We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for January 30th featuring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bourqra01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ray Bourque<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Ray Bourque Ties For Bruins All-Time Point Mark<\/h3>\n<p>1997: The Boston Bruins defenceman ties <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bucykjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Bucyk<\/a> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2020\/10\/02\/today-in-hockey-history-bruins-ray-bourque-scores-most-goals-by-defenceman\/\" target=\"_self\">most points in team history<\/a>. Bourque gets a goal in a 3-1 road loss to the Florida Panthers for his 1,339th career points.<\/p>\n<p>The Montreal native would end up with 1,506 points with the Bruins before being traded to the Colorado Avalanche in the 1999-2000 season. He would win that elusive Stanley Cup in 2001 and then retires.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1926:<\/strong> Ottawa Senators goalie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/conneal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alec Connell<\/a> is the first to have 10 shutouts in one season. He reaches the milestone with <span id=\"token-635F95982CF2FFC41AB88\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\">a 1-0 victory<\/span> against the New York Americans at Madison Square Garden.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1937:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stewane01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nels Stewart<\/a> of the Americans becomes the league&#8217;s all-time leading scorer with his 272nd career tally. Stewart moves past Montreal Canadiens great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/morenho01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Howie Morenz<\/a> for the top spot in a 4-0 win over the Habs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1954:<\/strong> <span id=\"token-1B885796AB6A6D16C3CBE\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/prentde01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dean Prentice<\/a><\/span> and <span id=\"token-E17E6EDD51580BE4DE0A8\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rontypa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Ronty<\/a><\/span> each score in the New York Rangers 2-1 victory at Montreal. However, it would be the last win at The Forum for the Rangers in the next 21 games until 1957.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1969:<\/strong> The Chicago Blackhawks rout the Philadelphia Flyers, 12-0, in the biggest shutout win in Chicago history. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hullde01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dennis Hull<\/a> gets five points and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pappiji01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jim Pappin<\/a> nets a hat trick.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1975:<\/strong> Bucyk gets a goal and two assists to become the sixth player with 1,200 points. He and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/o\/orrbo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bobby Orr<\/a> hat trick power the Bruins to a 6-0 win over the California Golden Seals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1990:<\/strong> Los Angeles Kings centre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gretzwa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne Gretzky<\/a> is the first to get 100 points in 11 straight seasons. He gets an assist in a 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils at the Great Western Forum.<\/p>\n<p>Pittsburgh Penguins star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lemiema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mario Lemieux<\/a> extends his point streak to 40 games by assisting on all three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/tantito01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tony Tanti<\/a> goals. However, Pittsburgh loses 6-3 to Philadelphia at home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1999:<\/strong> Montreal limits the Carolina Hurricanes to 10 shots on goal, but still lose the game, 3-1. Canadiens goalie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hackeje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeff Hackett<\/a> gives up three goals on eight shots in the second period.
