Last Word on Hockey is still going to look back at each date\u2019s historical significance to the game. We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for January 27th featuring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hallgl01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Glenn Hall<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Glenn Hall Starts 329th Straight Game<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1960:<\/strong> The Chicago Blackhawks goalie appears in a record 329th straight game in a 2-1 loss to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/leafs\/\" target=\"_self\">Toronto Maple Leafs.<\/a> Hall breaks the mark set by <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_self\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/v\/vezinge01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Georges Vezina<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>His record streak comes to an end in 1963 after suffering a back injury against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/bruins\/\" target=\"_self\">Boston Bruins<\/a>. Hall appears in <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2020\/11\/10\/today-in-hockey-history-chicago-blackhawks-glenn-hall-has-streak-end\/\" target=\"_self\">502 consecutive games,<\/a> which is a streak that spans eight seasons. He enters the Hall of Fame in 1975.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1951:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/belivje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jean Beliveau<\/a> scores his first goal and gets an assist for Montreal in 4-2 win over Chicago. Beliveau is on an amateur tryout contract and wearing the No. 20 sweater in his second NHL game.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1955:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/redwings\/\" target=\"_self\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/howego01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gordie Howe<\/a> fires 19 shots, but <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/rangers\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Rangers<\/a> goalie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/worslgu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gump Worsley<\/a> stops all of them in a 3-3 tie. Howe outshoots the entire Rangers&#8217; team, who could only muster 18 against the Red Wings.<\/p>\n<p><b>1965: <\/b><span id=\"token-9287D37AC8E2D177852BC\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sternul01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ulf Sterner<\/a><\/span> becomes the first player born in Sweden and the first who trained in Europe to play in an NHL game. Sterner takes the ice for the Rangers in a 5-2 win over the Bruins and doesn&#8217;t manage a point in four games. He&#8217;s sent back to the minors after that stint, but plays in Sweden until the 1977-78 season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1982:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/kings\/\" target=\"_self\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> set a record by playing in their sixth consecutive tie in a 4-4 draw with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/flyers\/\" target=\"_self\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/dionnma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marcel Dionne<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=murphmi01,murphmi02&amp;search=Mike+Murphy&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Murphy<\/a> get third-period goals to forge the tie at the Great Western Forum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1984:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/oilers\/\" target=\"_self\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> centre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gretzwa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne Gretzky<\/a> extends his point streak to a record 51 games.
