The hit came during a second consecutive loss to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/flyers\/\" target=\"_self\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sanhetr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Travis Sanheim<\/a><\/strong> was on the receiving end, but he was able to accumulate 20:30 of ice time. The 24-year-old had one of his best seasons in 2019-20 with 14 goals and 35 points in 66 games. The point total tied his career-high that was established in 2018-19. McCann is also capable of solid physical play with 89 hits and 27 blocks last season. A 49.0 percent career Corsi For isn&#8217;t especially good, but it&#8217;s fine considering that McCann is not usually a major factor on offence.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/canucks\/\" target=\"_self\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a> originally drafted McCann in the first round of the 2014 Draft and debuted the young skater in 2015-16. He got off to a good start with nine goals and 18 points in 69 games, but the team traded him to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/panthers\/\" target=\"_self\">Florida Panthers<\/a> in a trade that included <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gudbrer01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Erik Gudbranson<\/a><\/strong> in 2016. Florida then <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2020\/06\/08\/vancouver-canucks-revisiting-the-erik-gudbranson-trade\/\" target=\"_self\">traded<\/a> McCann to Pittsburgh in 2019 as part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2019\/02\/01\/pittsburgh-penguins-acquire-nick-bjugstad-jared-mccann-from-florida-panthers\/\" target=\"_self\">deal<\/a> that included <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brassde01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Derick Brassard<\/a><\/strong>. Overall, McCann has 52 goals and 124 points in 311 NHL games.<\/p>\n<h3>How Pittsburgh Replaces McCann<\/h3>\n<p>Expect Pittsburgh to do some shuffling to compensate for McCann&#8217;s expected absence. They could do several things including move <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bluegte01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Teddy Blueger<\/a><\/strong> to the third line and pull <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gaudrfr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frederick Gaudreau<\/a><\/strong> from the taxi squad. The Penguins aren&#8217;t especially deep, but they have just enough to manage despite some injuries to players like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/astonza01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zach Aston-Reese<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The league will continue to police high hits aggressively. They already <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2021\/01\/14\/st-louis-blues-sammy-blais-hearing-on-possible-suspension\/\" target=\"_self\">suspended<\/a> St. Louis Blues forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/blaissa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sammy Blais<\/a><\/strong> for a high hit against <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/toewsde01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Devon Toews<\/a><\/strong>, but McCann&#8217;s hit on Sanheim <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ToughCallBlog\/status\/1350255093996781569?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">looked<\/a> even worse.
