Be sure and check out the late games of NHL Predictions too.<\/p>\n<h2>NHL Predictions<\/h2>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Boston Bruins Vs New Jersey Devils<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Head-to-Head: Bruins 1 \u2013 0 Devils<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?s=Boston+bruins\" target=\"_self\">Boston Bruins<\/a> spoiled any parade that the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?s=new+jersey+devils\" target=\"_self\">New Jersey Devils<\/a> and debuting head coach <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/ruffli01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Lindy Ruff<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0had in mind, with a score of 3-2.\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/marchbr03.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Brad Marchand<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> would play a major factor in the game as he opens up the scoring late in the first, assisted on the Bruin&#8217;s second goal and scored the shootout winner. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/ritchni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nick Ritchie<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> had a strong start in his first game of the season as he scored a goal and looked to fit nicely on the second power-play unit. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Outshooting their opponent 37-22 resembles the same Boston team from last year. With the veteran leadership and talent on this Bruins&#8217; team, finding ways to get pucks to the net and the strong goaltending from <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rasktu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tuukka Rask<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Boston will continue to dominate the Devils.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The New Jersey Devils were missing key players due to injuries and work Visa issues, yet still played a strong game. If you&#8217;re a Devils&#8217; fan, you can&#8217;t be anything but impressed with this team. They battled against a stronger team and found ways to stick around and gain one point. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A major part of clinging on, only to lose in extra time, was <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/blackma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mackenzie Blackwood<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. He made some big saves to keep his team in contention, stopping 35 out of 37 shots faced.\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sharaye01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Yegor Sharangovich<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0showed he is ready to compete on an NHL level as he looked comfortable on the ice, displaying his skill set.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/v\/vatansa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sami Vatanen<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brattje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jesper Bratt<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0will continue to quarantine and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hischni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nico Hischiers<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8216; status remains unknown. These key players will be a big miss in their next game against the Bruins.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Prediction: Bruins win 3-1<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">San Jose Sharks vs Arizona Coyotes<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Head-to-Head: Sharks 1 \u2013 0 Coyotes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In an exciting matchup between two teams displaying many opportunities, the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?s=san+jose+sharks\" target=\"_self\"> San Jose Shark<\/a>s would come out on top in a shootout.\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/coutulo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Logan Couture<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> would bury the winner in a shootout to end the game with a final score of 4-3.\u00a0 The Sharks outshot Arizona 23-17 after two periods and would lead 2-1 on the scoreboard. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">However, San Jose began to lose their touch in the third, being outshot 7-19. This allowed Arizona to take control of the game, giving up their lead.\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/j\/jonesma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Matt Jones<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0was not a first star of the game, though he deserves mentioning as his goaltending was outstanding.\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hertlto01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tomas Hertl<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kaneev01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Evander Kane<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> displayed why they are stars in the NHL. If Matt Jones continues the trend of producing a save percentage above or around .900, success is on the horizon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?s=Arizona+coyotes\" target=\"_self\">Arizona Coyotes<\/a> lost\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=hallta02,hallta01&amp;search=Taylor+Hall&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Taylor Hall<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0in the offseason but gained a few pieces being\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/caggidr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Drake Caggiula<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brassde01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Derick Brassard<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Although Brassard didn&#8217;t register on the score sheet, he was an effective player and helped contribute to the Coyote&#8217;s first power-play goal. He looked good on their power-play, and future success looks promising.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/garlaco01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Conor Garland<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0was easily Arizona&#8217;s best player on the ice as he had one goal and an assist and was noticeable each time he stepped on the ice.\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kesseph01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Phil Kessel<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0scored with 3.2 seconds left in regulation as the Coyotes would score twice in the final 3:30 to force overtime. Arizona put up a good fight during the back half of the game and played great. The issue was not coming out of the gates strong and quick enough. In a short season, a team needs to play a full 60 minutes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Prediction: Sharks win 5-3<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Edmonton Oilers vs Montreal Canadiens<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Head-to-Head: Oilers 0 \u2013 0 Canadiens<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">After a sloppy start to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/oilers\/\" target=\"_self\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> season, they made up for it in their second meeting. In the Oiler&#8217;s second game, the team transitioned to correct their defensive play. Goaltending from <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/koskimi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mikko Koskinen<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0was also much better and helped the Oilers keep the lead throughout the game. That was not the only difference between games, as Edmonton&#8217;s elite players,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcdavco01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Connor McDavid<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/draisle01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Leon Draisaitl<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, looked more like the stars we know. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Edmonton&#8217;s bottom-six needs to find ways to get into the game, generating energy and scoring chances. The Edmonton Oilers went through the offseason not correcting their issues, and it still remains to hurt them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_self\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> faced off against the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/leafs\/\" target=\"_self\"> Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> in their first game and looked impressive. Montreal had stellar goaltending from\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/priceca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Carey Price<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/drouijo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jonathan Drouin<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0silenced the critics.\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/anderjo05.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Josh Anderson<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/romanal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Alexander Romanov<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0made their debuts with Montreal, as each got onto the score sheet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> This Montreal team compared in similarities to the team that eliminated the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/penguins\/\" target=\"_self\"> Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> last season&#8217;s play-in round. However, they carried a lead and ran into some penalty issues that created a collapse, costing them the game. The Canadiens can&#8217;t afford to give Edmonton&#8217;s power-play opportunities as that&#8217;s the area in which they excel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Prediction: Edmonton wins: 5-4 OT<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">New York Islanders vs New York Rangers<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Head-to-Head: Islanders 1 \u2013 0 Rangers<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?s=new+york+islanders\" target=\"_self\">New York Islanders<\/a> came out of the gates with a strong presence, looking to prove where they stand against their rival. The Islanders controlled every aspect of the game as they dominated puck battles and controlled the majority. <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/barzama01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mathew Barzal<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, fresh off a new contract, put up a highlight-reel goal buzzing through two Rangers defenders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/leean01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Anders Lee<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, known for scoring goals, scored two of the Islanders&#8217; four goals. New York Islanders\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/v\/varlasi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Semyon Varlamov<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> recorded his first shut out of the year and disposed of Alex Lafreniere&#8217;s NHL debut. The Islanders will look to use and build off of the momentum from their win.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?s=new+york+rangers\" target=\"_self\">New York Rangers<\/a> will have to reconsider their previous game plan and go back to the drawing board for this match. With a lack of discipline, the team took too many unnecessary penalties. This keeps star players like\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/panarar01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Artemi Panarin<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> with limited time on ice, and it is costly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Not only that, as it results in a tired penalty-killing group and takes scoring chances away. The Rangers top-six looked to lack chemistry and saw some lineup juggles during the game. Fortunately for the New York Rangers, this was only one game. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They still have a chance for redemption against the Islanders if the team can progress on their mistakes. The newly acquired <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gauthju01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Julien Gauthier<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> was the best player on the ice for the Rangers with two shots on goal, four hits, and drawing a penalty.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Prediction: Islanders win: 3-2<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Carolina Hurricanes vs Detroit Red Wings<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Head-to-Head: Hurricanes 1 \u2013 0 Red Wings<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?s=carolina+hurricanes\" target=\"_self\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/a> were the more dominant team outshooting the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?s=Detroit+red+wings\" target=\"_self\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> 43-14 in their 3-0 victory. They were the more physical team and looked like the Carolina team everyone predicted to be. <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mrazepe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Petr Mrazek<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> recorded his 22nd career shutout.
