The Vegas Golden Knights<\/a> have named forward Mark Stone as the first captain in franchise history. The team unveiled Stone’s captaincy just a day before their first game of the season.<\/p>\n

Why the Golden Knights Chose Mark Stone for Captain<\/h2>\n

Mark Stone, who joined the Golden Knights in the 2018-19 season, is considered one of the league’s best two-way forwards. Last season, Stone was second in Golden Knights scoring with 63 points in 65 games, just three points behind Max Pacioretty. The immensely-talented forward has scored at least 20 goals in six seasons, reaching career highs in the 2014-15 season with the Ottawa Senators<\/a>. Stone was acquired two seasons ago by the Golden Knights from the Senators<\/a>. He’s played a leadership role on both teams as the alternate captains in the past. Stone’s role as captain is historic: he is the first to serve such a role in Vegas Golden Knights history. Last season, Stone signed an eight-year, $76-million contract with the Golden Knights. With Stone here to stay, he looks to be an excellent choice for captain.<\/p>\n

Mark Stone’s Role This Season<\/h3>\n

The Golden Knights are clear-cut contenders for the Stanley Cup; they will need all the help they can get from Stone. The captain’s two-way play on the team’s top line will be integral if they want to push farther than previous seasons. Stone should be in regular contention for the Frank J. Selke trophy. If he wins, he will be the first winger in league history to earn such an honour. His leadership should serve as a rallying point for the team as they make another push for the Cup. With new acquisitions like Alex Pietrangelo, it looks like the sky’s the limit for the Golden Knights.<\/p>\n
