Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for January 13th, featuring Mark Messier<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mark Messier Hits Two Milestones<\/h3>\n

1991:<\/strong> Messier reaches the 1,000-point mark in the Edmonton Oilers<\/a> 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers<\/a>. He gets three assists, including one on Glenn Anderson<\/a>‘s 400th goal.<\/p>\n

1993:<\/strong> Messier gets to 1,200 points in the New York Rangers<\/a> 5-4 victory over the Washington Capitals<\/a>. He gets a goal and three assists, including the game-winner by Adam Graves<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He finishes his career<\/a> with 694 goals and 1,887 points in 1,756 games over his illustrious 25-year career.<\/p>\n

Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n

1926:<\/strong> Babe Ruth drop the puck for the ceremonial faceoff prior to the New York Americans game versus the Montreal Canadiens<\/a>. The Habs get a 2-1 victory over the Americans at Madison Square Garden.<\/p>\n

1940:<\/strong> The Rangers extend their winning streak to 10 games with a 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>. Goalie Dave Kerr<\/a> extends his personal streak to 19 games, which stood until 1994.<\/p>\n

1971:<\/b> Five days after being named general manager of the Detroit Red Wings<\/a>, Ned Harkness trades left wing Frank Mahovlich<\/a><\/span> to the Canadiens for forwards Mickey Redmond<\/a><\/span>, Bill Collins<\/a><\/span> and Guy Charron<\/a><\/span>.The Big M wins two Stanley Cups for Montreal.<\/p>\n

1979:<\/strong> The Los Angeles Kings<\/a> put together the Triple Crown line of Marcel Dionne<\/a>, Dave Taylor<\/a> and Charlie Simmer<\/a>. Dionne gets four goals, including No. 300 in the Kings’ 7-3 win over the Red Wings.<\/p>\n

2006:<\/strong> Washington rookie Alex Ovechkin<\/a> gets his first hat trick in a 3-2 win over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim<\/a>. He beats Jean-Sebastien Giguere<\/a> 3:04 into overtime for his 30th goal of the season.<\/span><\/p>\n

2007: <\/b>Kings goalie Yutaka Fukufuji<\/a><\/span> becomes the first Japanese native to play in the NHL when he relieves Barry Brust<\/a>. Fukufuji makes four saves inn a 6-5 loss to the St. Louis Blues<\/a> and starts his first game three nights later.<\/span><\/p>\n

2015:<\/strong> The Buffalo Sabres<\/a> retire the No. 39 of Dominik Hasek<\/a> before a game with Detroit. Hasek wins 234 games with the Sabres and got six Vezina Trophies and two Hart Trophies.<\/p>\n

2018: <\/b> Mathew Barzal<\/a> becomes the second rookie in New York Islanders<\/a> history to have multiple five-point games in a single season. He joins Bryan Trottier<\/a><\/span> when he has two goals and three assists.<\/p>\n
