After Sustaining the injury during the 2020 playoffs, Nylander decided to rest and rehab during the off-season. They announced today that the young forward underwent successful surgery on his left knee back on Monday.

During this past season, Nylander played in 65 games, recording 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points. In those games, Nylander also added 10 penalty minutes.

Over his four-year NHL career, Nylander has played for the Buffalo Sabres and Chicago Blackhawks. He has 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 career points in 84 career games. The Buffalo Sabres originally drafted him in the first round, eighth overall in the 2016 NHL Entry draft.

Looking Towards the Future

This news comes days after the NHL and NHLPA officially announced that the 2020-21 season would begin on January 13th, with training camps set for January 3rd. The regular season ends on May 8th, and the playoffs are finishing by mid-July. Now that the season is 56 games long, Nylander could be out the whole time.

This news comes as quite unfortunate news as this will be Alexander Nylander’s second season with the team. As a young forward battling for a full-time roster position, this is a disappointment. This is a challenging situation for a player looking to make an immediate impact within the top-nine forward group on a team that has openly embraced a rebuild for the upcoming future.

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

The Chicago Blackhawks announced that forward Alexander Nylander would be sidelined for the next four to six months after undergoing successful knee surgery.
