Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for December 7th, featuring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bucykjo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Johnny Bucyk<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Johnny Bucyk Becomes Bruins All-Time Scoring Leader<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1967:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/bruins\/\" target=\"_self\">Boston Bruins<\/a> great becomes the team&#8217;s all-time leading scorer with a point in a 3-1 win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/rangers\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Rangers<\/a>. Bucyk passes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/schmimi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Milt Schmidt<\/a> for first on the team&#8217;s points list with his 576th point.<\/p>\n<p>He becomes the first Boston player to get 250 goals in team history one year later. Bucyk gets a goal and two assists in a 4-1 win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/redwings\/\" target=\"_self\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a>. He finishes with 566 career goals in 1,540 games.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1919:<\/strong> The Toronto Arenas change their name to the St. Patricks, which stays until 1926-27. However, they change their name to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/leafs\/\" target=\"_self\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1961:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_self\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/belivje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jean Beliveau<\/a> serves in his first game as captain. He was voted captain in October, but had to sit out the first 25 games due to a knee injury. Beliveau remains captain until retiring after the 1970-71 season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1966:<\/strong> The Habs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/richahe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henri Richard<\/a> scores his 250th goal in a 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs. He becomes the seventh player in history to reach the mark and second behind brother, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/richama01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maurice Richard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1975:<\/strong> Bucyk scores to tie Beliveau for sixth place on the all-time list with his 507th goal. He scores in a 2-2 tie with Montreal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1977: <\/strong><span id=\"token-563FE2FB174CD995E3891\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/siroibo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bob Sirois<\/a><\/span> scores twice as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/capitals\/\" target=\"_self\">Washington Capitals<\/a> end a 20-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over the Cleveland Barons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1982:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/oilers\/\" target=\"_self\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> centre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gretzwa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne Gretzky<\/a> scores twice as he extends his NHL-record 30-game point streak. Gretzky powers the Oilers to a 3-2 win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/blues\/\" target=\"_self\">St. Louis Blues<\/a>. He scores 24 goals and has 52 assists for 76 points during the streak, which ends two days later.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1985:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/dionnma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marcel Dionne<\/a> becomes the first player to score 500 goals as a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/kings\/\" target=\"_self\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a>. He scores in a 3-2 victory over the host <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_self\">Winnipeg Jets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1988:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/islanders\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Islanders<\/a> fire head coach<strong> Terry Simpson<\/strong> eight months after leading them to a Patrick Division title. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/arboual01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Al Arbour<\/a> comes out of retirement and leads the Isles to the Wales Conference final in 1993.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2002:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/wild\/\" target=\"_self\">Minnesota Wild<\/a> forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gaborma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marian Gaborik<\/a> is fifth player to get five hat tricks before the age of 21.
