Last Word on Hockey is still going to look back at each date\u2019s historical significance to the game. We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for November 30th, featuring Joe Thornton<\/a>.

Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n

San Jose Acquires Joe Thornton<\/h3>\n

2005:<\/strong> The San Jose Sharks<\/a> get the former top pick of the 1997 NHL Draft in a deal with the Boston Bruins<\/a>. Boston acquires Marco Strum, Brad Stuart<\/a> and Wayne Primeau<\/a> from San Jose. Bruins general manager Mike O’Connell<\/a> makes the move to shake up the squad.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thornton becomes a fan favourite<\/a> with the Sharks and gets 92 points in 58 games<\/a>. He finishes the season with a combined 125 points, winning the Art Ross<\/a> <\/span>and the Hart Trophies<\/span>. Boston is able to sign Zdeno Chara<\/a> with the cap space.<\/p>\n

Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n

1954:<\/strong> The Chicago Black Hawks<\/a> and Montreal Canadiens<\/a> play to a 3-3 tie in Omaha, Neb. Chicago plays six home games spread out through Omaha, St. Louis and St. Paul, Minn.<\/p>\n

1968:<\/strong> Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> forward Val Fonteyne<\/a> extends his penalty-free streak to 185 games in a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

1977:<\/strong> New York Rangers<\/a> star Phil Esposito<\/a> moves into second on the all-time goal-scoring list with a hat trick. His three goals give Esposito 605 goals in a 4-0 win over the St. Louis Blues<\/a>.<\/p>\n

1980:<\/strong> Quebec Nordiques<\/a> rookie Peter Stastny<\/a> is the first player to get points in his first 16 games. He gets an assist in a 7-3 loss to the New York Islanders<\/a>.<\/p>\n

1995:<\/strong> St. Louis goalie Grant Fuhr<\/a> is the 11th goalie to get 300 wins in a 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets<\/a>. Fuhr finishes his NHL career with a record of 403-295- 114.<\/p>\n

1998:<\/strong> Pittsburgh’s Mario Lemieux<\/a> becomes the ninth player to get 1,400 points in a 6-2 victory over Boston. He gets a goal and three assists. Ron Francis<\/a> becomes the ninth player to get 900 assists with his pair of helpers.<\/p>\n

2005:<\/strong> Columbus Blue Jackets<\/a> forward Sergei Fedorov<\/a> is the first Russian to skate in 1,000 NHL games.<\/p>\n

2015:<\/strong> Rangers goalie Henrik Ludqvist passes Terry Sawchuk<\/a> for third on the all-time wins list. He makes 33 saves for his 352nd win in a 4-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2017:<\/strong> Daniel Sedin<\/a> of the Vancouver Canucks<\/a> gets his 1,000th point with three in a 5-3 win over the Nashville Predators<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2019:<\/strong> Washington Capitals<\/a> forward Alex Ovechkin<\/a> passes Jari Kurri<\/a> for most hat tricks by a non-Canadian with his three goals. The Caps beat the Detroit Red Wings<\/a>, 5-2.<\/p>\n
