He comes out a winner in this one like he did many times throughout his career. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2020\/12\/26\/today-in-hockey-history-red-wings-sergei-fedorov-scores-five\/\" target=\"_self\">Sergei Fedorov<\/a> scores with 28 seconds left in regulation to give the Red Wings a 3-2 win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/canucks\/\" target=\"_self\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bowman receives a two-minute standing ovation, but downplays it&#8230; per usual. He finishes his coaching career with the Red Wings in 2002 and still holds <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2020\/04\/23\/today-in-hockey-history-pittsburgh-penguins-scotty-bowman-gets-playoff-win-record\/\" target=\"_self\">NHL regular-season records<\/a> for games coached (2,141) and victories (1,244).<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1926:<\/strong> Detroit gets its first win in franchise history as <span id=\"token-CE79356662BFF049FD2A5\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><strong>Frank Frederickson<\/strong> scores the only goal of a 1-0 victory over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_self\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>. Hap Holmes gets the shutout for the Detroit Cougars, who become the Red Wings in 1932.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1936:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/leafs\/\" target=\"_self\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> star King Clancy retires after a 16-year career with stints on the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/senators\/\" target=\"_self\">Ottawa Senators<\/a> and Toronto. Clancy spends most of the next five decades as a coach, referee, team executive and goodwill ambassador.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1960:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_self\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mooredi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dickie Moore<\/a> scores his 20th goal in the 21st game of the season. Moore equals the league record for fastest to 20 goals in a season in a 3-1 loss at Detroit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1986:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/sabres\/\" target=\"_self\">Buffalo Sabres<\/a> great <span id=\"token-2207D73D4F7996B1AC3BE\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\">Gilbert Perreault<\/span> retires after getting 1,326 points (512 goals, 814 assists) in 1,191 games. He was the top pick of the 1970 NHL Draft and played his entire career in Buffalo.<\/p>\n<p><b>2003:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/panthers\/\" target=\"_self\">Florida Panthers<\/a> defenceman <span id=\"token-EB1EE1620FF1D1BA584BC\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\">Mathieu Biron is the first player since 1980 to score a goal on his brother, Martin Biron. Matheiu&#8217;s goal helps the Panthers beat the Sabres, 2-1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2006:<\/strong> Red Wings defenceman Chris Chelios becomes the first American to play in the most games in league history in a 3-2 shootout loss to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/blues\/\" target=\"_self\">St. Louis Blues<\/a>. He breaks Phil Housley&#8217;s record by skating in his 1,496th game.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2014:<\/strong> Frans Nielsen and John Tavares each score in the shootout to give the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/islanders\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Islanders<\/a> a 1-0 win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/flyers\/\" target=\"_self\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/a>.
