Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for November 7th, featuring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/berenre01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Red Berenson<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Red Berenson Bags Six Goals<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1968:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/blues\/\" target=\"_self\">St. Louis Blues<\/a> centre scores six goals in an 8-0 rout of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/flyers\/\" target=\"_self\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/a>. Berenson gets a goal in the first period, four in the second period and one more in the third period. The &#8220;Red Baron&#8221; gets the first six-goal game since the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/redwings\/\" target=\"_self\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/howesy01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Syd Howe<\/a> did so in 1944.<\/p>\n<p>He retires after the 1977-78 season after scoring 261 career goals and 658 points. The Regina, Saskatchewan native becomes a legendary head coach at the University of Michigan in 1984 and coaches for 33 seasons.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1962:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_self\">Chicago Black Hawks<\/a> goalie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hallgl01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Glenn Hall<\/a> leaves with a back injury after making his 502nd straight start in net. <span id=\"token-8449C4A2287499E2A8C8F\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/dejorde01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Denis DeJordy<\/a> comes on relief<\/span> and the <span id=\"token-9CF106B74BB8A7CAB73A5\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\">Blackhawks tie the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/bruins\/\" target=\"_self\">Boston Bruins,<\/a> 3-3<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1968:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/howego01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gordie Howe<\/a> gets his<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2020\/10\/27\/today-in-hockey-history-red-wings-gordie-howe-ties-maurice-richard\/\" target=\"_self\"> 1,600th career point<\/a> on an assist in Detroit&#8217;s 5-2 win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/stars\/\" target=\"_self\">Minnesota North Stars<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1975:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/rangers\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Rangers<\/a> and Boston pull off a blockbuster deal involving three future Hockey Hall of Famers. Boston gets <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/parkbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brad Park<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/ratelje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jean Ratelle<\/a> while New York receives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/esposph01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phil Esposito<\/a> and <span id=\"token-2A625F1A9AC73E855729F\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/v\/vadnaca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carol Vadnais<\/a><\/span>. Both Park and Esposito are reviled at the time in their new cities. However, both would endear themselves to their new fan bases. Esposito would score two goals just 12 hours later in a 7-5 loss to the California Golden Seals in Oakland. Park and Ratelle help Boston make the Stanley Cup Final in 1977 and 1978 while Esposito does the same with the Rangers in 1979.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1981:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/v\/vanbojo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Van Boxmeer<\/a>&#8216;s natural hat trick and two assists lead the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/sabres\/\" target=\"_self\">Buffalo Sabres<\/a> to a 6-2 victory over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/islanders\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Islanders<\/a>. He sets a Sabres-record for most points by a defenceman.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2002:<\/strong> The Rangers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/leetcbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brian Leetch<\/a> is the first defenceman to score seven overtime regular-season goals in league history.
