We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for November 5th, featuring Brian Boyle<\/a>.

Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n

Brian Boyle Nets Emotional Hat Trick<\/h3>\n

2018:<\/strong> The New Jersey Devils<\/a> forward nets a huge hat trick on Hockey Fights Cancer awareness night in Pittsburgh. His three goals power the Devils to a 5-1 victory over the host Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>. Boyle got a diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukemia just 14 months earlier.<\/p>\n

The natural hat trick comes just about a year after the disease goes into remission. Boyle would be sent to the Nashville Predators<\/a> at the trade deadline<\/a>. He played last season for the Florida Panthers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n

1936:<\/strong> A pair of Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> Hall of Famers make their debut in a 3-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings<\/a>. Syl Apps<\/a> and Turk Broda<\/a> play for Toronto and eventually win three Stanley Cups together.<\/p>\n

1942:<\/strong> Carl Liscombe<\/a> of Detroit makes history with a seven-point night in a 12-5 rout of the New York Rangers<\/a>. Liscombe scores three times and hands out four assists. Detroit also gets six power-play goals, which is still a team record.<\/p>\n

1955:<\/b> Jean Beliveau<\/a><\/span> scores all four goals<\/span> for the Montreal Canadiens<\/a> in a 4-2 victory over the Boston Bruins<\/a>. Three tallies come in 44 seconds and on the same power play. The rules at the time meant a player had to serve the full two minutes when they committed a minor penalty. The rule is fixed for the start of the 1956-57 season.<\/p>\n

1970: <\/b>Goalies Glenn Hall<\/a><\/span> and Ernie Wakely<\/a><\/span> combine to help the St. Louis Blues<\/a> shutout the Bruins at the Boston Garden. It’s the Blues first win in Boston and it snaps the B’s 29-game home unbeaten run of 24-0-5.<\/p>\n

1979: <\/b>Michel Larocque<\/a> stops 32 shots and Guy Lafleur<\/a> scores twice in Montreal’s 2-0 win over the Washington Capitals<\/a>. The victory gives the Habs a 34-0-2 record against the Caps since Washington first entered the league.<\/span><\/p>\n

1983:<\/strong> The Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> set a record for the fastest two goals to start a period. Ken Yaremchuk<\/span> scores 12 seconds into the second period while Darryl Sutter<\/a> nets another at 21 seconds in a 10-5 loss to the Minnesota North Stars<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2002:<\/strong> Rangers goalie Mike Richter<\/a> plays in his final game against the Edmonton Oilers.<\/a> He suffers post-concussion symptoms and is forced to retire.<\/p>\n
