Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for November 3rd, featuringAl Arbour.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/arboual01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Al Arbour<\/a> Coaches Final Time<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2007:<\/strong> The longtime <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/islanders\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Islanders<\/a> bench boss coaches for the final time after coming out of retirement. Arbour returns for a last game at the behest of then coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nolante01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ted Nolan<\/a>. It&#8217;s the 1,500th game behind the bench for Arbour.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/satanmi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miroslav Satan<\/a> scores twice as the Isles rally to beat the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/penguins\/\" target=\"_self\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>, 3-2, at Nassau Coliseum. Arbour is the coach of the Islanders <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2020\/08\/28\/today-in-hockey-history-new-york-islanders-coach-al-arbour-passes-away-in-2015\/\" target=\"_self\">four straight Stanley Cup victories<\/a> in the early 1980s. Al Arbour retires with 739 coaching victories with New York.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1948:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/howego01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gordie Howe<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/redwings\/\" target=\"_self\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> makes his first of a record 23 All-Star Game appearances. The league All-Stars beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, 3-1, at Chicago Stadium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1951:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/richama01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maurice Richard<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_self\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> scores his 300th ad 301st career goals in a 3-2 loss to Detroit. Richard is the second player to get 300 career goals after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stewane01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nels Stewart<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>1974: <\/b><span id=\"token-3F46BDCEF0AF7F2A681B5\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\">Johnny Bucyk<\/span> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/bruins\/\" target=\"_self\">Boston Bruins<\/a> becomes the highest-scoring left winger in league history. He gets two assists in a 10-1 victory over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/stars\/\" target=\"_self\">Minnesota North Stars<\/a> to pass <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hullbo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bobby Hull<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_self\">Chicago Black Hawks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1987:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/rangers\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Rangers<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/dionnma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marcel Dionne<\/a> is the second player to get to 1,700 career points. He gets a goal in a 5-3 loss to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/flames\/\" target=\"_self\">Calgary Flames<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>1990: <\/b>Linesman Wayne Bonney takes part in a personal doubleheader. Bonney officiates an afternoon game between the Blackhawks and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/flyers\/\" target=\"_self\">Philadelphia Flyers.<\/a> He then fills in for an injured Gerard Gauthier for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/sabres\/\" target=\"_self\">Buffalo Sabres<\/a> versus Bruins game later that night.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1998:<\/strong> Pittsburgh extends its own record with its 12th consecutive power-play goal. <span id=\"token-89E26A7458A9ACAF8C3B8\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/galanma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maxim Galanov<\/a><\/span> scores on the first of seven extra-man chances for the Penguins. The Pens can&#8217;t cash in on their other six power-play opportunities in a 4-4 tie with the Flyers.<\/p>\n<p><b>2002: <\/b><span id=\"token-C6AF28AE1B1BE990783AA\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/messima01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Messier<\/a><\/span> plays his 1,616th NHL game to move past <span id=\"token-F3E671816B55263075B90\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/murphla01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Larry Murphy<\/a> for the second-most games played. Messier scores in a 3-2 loss to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/blues\/\" target=\"_self\">St. Louis Blues<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2011:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/predators\/\" target=\"_self\">Nashville Predators<\/a> goalie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rinnepe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pekka Rinne<\/a> celebrates his birthday by signing his seven-year, $49 million contract and getting a 3-0 shutout over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_self\">Phoenix Coyotes<\/a>.
