We\u2019re normally starting up another hockey season, but we\u2019re in a different world. Last Word on Hockey is still going to look back at each date\u2019s historical significance to the game. We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for October 30th, featuring Steven Stamkos<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n

Steven Stamkos Scores First Two Goals of Career<\/h3>\n

2008:<\/strong> The future Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a> captain scores his first two goals of his NHL career. Stamkos gets a pair of goals in a 5-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres<\/a> at the HSBC Arena. The Markham, Ontario native scores 23 goals and gets 23 assists for 46 points in his rookie campaign.<\/p>\n

Stamkos scores 51 goals the next season and a career-high 60 in the 2011-12 season. He finally gets his hands on the Stanley Cup in the 2019-20 season. “Stammer” plays only one game, but scores a goal<\/a> en route to beating the Dallas Stars<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n

1943:<\/strong> Montreal Canadiens<\/a> coach Dick Irvin<\/a> puts together the line of Elmer Lach<\/a>, Toe Blake<\/a> and Maurice Richard<\/a> for the first time. “The Punch Line” racks up the goals and helps the Habs to the Cup in 1944 and 1946. Blake is forced to retire after a broken leg in 1948. However, . Lach sets an NHL single-season record in 1944-45 with 80 points in a 50-game schedule. Richard sets an NHL record with 50 goals in 50 games.<\/p>\n

That same night, Gus Bodnar<\/a><\/span> of the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> sets an NHL record for the fastest goal by a player in his first NHL game<\/span>. Bodnar scores only 15 seconds into his first game and adds another goal and an assist. Toronto beats the New York Rangers<\/a>, 5-2, at Maple Leaf Gardens.<\/p>\n

1962:<\/strong> Chicago Black Hawks<\/a> goalie Glenn Hall<\/a> plays in his 500th consecutive game in a 5-3 win over the Rangers.<\/p>\n

1975:<\/strong> Boston Bruins<\/a> forward Johnny Bucyk<\/span> becomes the seventh forward in league history to get 500 goals. He gets the milestone goal in the first period of a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues<\/a>.<\/p>\n

1983:<\/strong> Brent Sutter<\/a><\/span> and Duane Sutter<\/a><\/span> of the New York Islanders<\/a> oppose twin brothers Rich Sutter<\/a><\/span> and Ron Sutter<\/a><\/span> of the Philadelphia Flyers<\/a>. Brent gets two goals while Duane has an assist.<\/p>\n

1998:<\/strong> The Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> set a record with their ninth and 10th straight power-play goals. Pittsburgh forges a 2-2 tie with the Vancouver Canucks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2014:<\/strong> Chicago’s Marian Hossa<\/a> becomes the 80th player to reach 1,000 points in 5-4 shootout win over the Ottawa Senators<\/a>. Hossa scores in the third period to get to the milestone.<\/p>\n
