No reports on the salary yet. This contract would carry him through the 2020-2021 season.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Hearing that the Islanders are finalizing a deal with UFA netminder Cory Schneider. There&#39;s the obvious connection there between Schneider and Isles GM Lou Lamoriello. Happy to see Schneider, 34, get a chance to continue his career. Schneider has put up a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">170-159-58 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">career record in 409 career appearances with 388 career starts. He also has a 2.43 goals against average, .918 save percentage, and 26 shutouts. Cory has a 2-6-0 career record in 14 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, with a 2.35 goals against average, .931 save percentage, and no shutouts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the 19-20 season, Schneider played in 13 games with 11 starts for the New Jersey Devils, putting up a 3-6-0 record with 2.43 GAA, a .887 save percentage and only one shutout.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Schneider was <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2020\/10\/08\/cory-schneider-bought-out-by-the-new-jersey-devils\/\" target=\"_self\">bought out by the Devils<\/a> in early October; to very few fans&#8217; surprise. This move will costs the Devils a $2 million cap hit over the next four seasons. But this $2 million cap hit is money saved, relative to the $6 million cap hit that Schneider&#8217;s contract held.<\/p>\n<h2><b>What This Means for the Future<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If Schneider joins the Islanders, the goaltender is to be a depth piece for the New York team, which already has two great players in the net, the starter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/v\/varlasi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Semyon Varlamov<\/a> and the new Russian-addition, Ilya Sorokin, as the backup. On the other hand, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Islanders would get on Cory a great starter for their American Hockey League team, the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bridgeport Sound Tigers, considering he has spent some time in the AHL with the Binghamton Devils, making appearances in eight games in 2018-19 and 14 in the past season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Schneider has long be reported as one of the greatest personalities in hockey. At age 34, it&#8217;s fairly clear that this signing is more for veteran leadership than it is to bring in a jaw-dropping talent.
