In 56 games played with the Flames last season, Jankowski had five goals and two assists for seven points. This last season was a large drop off from his 14 -goal, 18-assist, and 32-point season last year. The Corsi percentage for Jankowski’s play was 48%, with a relative Corsi of -3.6. His faceoff percentage was 44.8% last season, a large drop from the 52% in the 2018–19 season. Over his four year career, he has scored 36 goals, had 28 assists for 64 points. His career Corsi percentage is 50.4%, with a relative Corsi of -3.3. He has about 60 penalties in minutes in his four years.

Looking to the Future

Mark Jankowski, 26, signing with the Penguins is a questionable move, considering he is essentially useless offensively and is very poor at the dot. With the Penguins in a difficult spot, they are looking to get some younger pieces for their re-tool. Even though he is signed at league minimum, this is not a great move for the Penguins. This roster spot could have been taken by a prospect who could prove to be their next 30-goal scorer. Jankowski was likely given this deal based on his performance the previous two years as opposed to this last season.

The Penguins are hoping he can bounce back to his 15-goal past self, providing them the scoring boost they need. Trading away Patric Hornqvist has left a hole in the Penguins’ offensive capabilities, so they are hoping Jankowski can partially stem the bleeding. Looking at the Mark Jankowski signing as a whole, it is not a miserably terrible signing, but a roster spot that could end up backfiring on the Penguins management.

Main photo:

Embed from Getty Images

Mark Jankowski has signed a one-year deal worth $700,000 with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday.
