He has a career record of 387 wins, 281 losses and 86 ties in 780 games. The East Lansing, Mich. native also has a career save percentage of .915 and a goals-against-average of 2.61. Miller also has 44 career shutouts in his long career.

Last season he went 9-6-4 with a 3.10 goals-against-average and .907 save percentage. It was the first season Miller did not get a shutout since 2012-13 with the Sabres. Buffalo originally drafted him in the fifth round, 138th overall in the 1999 NHL Draft.

Miller was a first-team league All-Star and won the Vezina Trophy in 2010 with Buffalo. He finished fourth that season in the Hart Trophy voting.

Many rumble that Miller will serve as the Taxi Squad goalie in Anaheim. Given his short term and cheap price, that might end up coming to fruition.

What This Means for the Future

There was speculation that Miller was leaning towards retirement. However, it looks like he’s going to give it at least another season. The 40-year-old served as a capable backup for John Gibson with the Anaheim Ducks the last few seasons.

Miller finding a job in a glutted goalie market is a testament to his ability. He may not be able to make the saves like he used to, but he can fill in for a handful of games. He’s also a veteran presence in the locker room and can help out any younger goalies.

The former Michigan State product also wants to get some more time in net before he calls it a career. He was very dominant for a stretch of time in his career.

The Anaheim Ducks have signed veteran free agent goalie Ryan Miller to a one-year contract worth $1 million.
