If he does get the surgery as soon as possible, that would put him on the injury list until about February. The NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has stated that the league is fairly hopeful to start the next season in January. That could possibly mean the Stars are without their top scorer for two months, if everything goes perfectly. Seguin talled 17 goals and 33 assists in 69 games during the regular season. In the postseason he tabulated two goals and 11 assists in 26 games.

While the injury seems serious, it really didn’t affect Seguin’s play overall during the playoffs. Sometimes… well most of the time, observers of games have no clue a player is suffering through some kind of injury. For the Stars sake, they need their leading scorer to be healthy. He would be missed seeing that the Stars had difficulty scoring goals most of the season. They did improve upon that in the postseason.

What GM Jim Nill’s Options May be Going Forward

When a player of Seguin’s stature is out, the general manager is tasked with replacing him at least on a temporary basis. Nill may consider that today and early tomorrow when the free agency circus begins. There will be plenty of available forwards to attempt to replace Seguin’s contributions to the offence. The Stars have about $14 million in available cap space and just learned that their goalie, Anton Khudobin will seek free agency offers.

DAL GM Jim Nill says Anton Khudobin will test the market

— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) October 8, 2020

If the Stars potentially would be without their best scorer AND star goalie to start the news season, things could get depressing for them.

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

The Dallas Stars have reported that their star forward Tyler Seguin may be out for up to four months.
