Edmonton Oilers<\/a> superstar forward Connor McDavid<\/a><\/strong> has tested positive for COVID-19. McDavid, still just 23 years old, is arguably one of the largest names in sports to contract the disease.<\/p>\n

Connor McDavid Tests Positive for COVID-19<\/h2>\n

With the offseason just starting and the draft and free agency about to begin, the Oilers have a lot on their plate. Having their captain test positive for COVID-19, they can add one more factor to the list. McDavid, who nursed a knee injury last offseason, will be faced with another offseason of recovery. According to the Oilers official statement, he has begun self quarantining.<\/p>\n

Last season, McDavid scored 34 goals and 63 assists for a total of 97 points in 64 games. This would mark the first time since McDavid’s rookie year in 2015-16 that he did not hit the 100 point mark. While he technically did not score 100 points, he was on pace to score 124 points in a full 82 game season, which would shatter his career high of 116 set in 2018-19. This production was good for the second highest points-per-game average (1.5) in the NHL trailing Hart Trophy winner and fellow teammate, Leon Draisaitl<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Biggest Name in Hockey to Test Positive<\/h3>\n

Connor McDavid is possibly the biggest name in hockey, so there’s no doubt that he’s also the biggest name in hockey to test positive for COVID-19. The next biggest name would be Auston Matthews<\/a><\/strong>, of the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>. Thankfully, Matthews was able to make a speedy recovery. He was able to hop right into bubble playoff action after testing positive, and had two goals and four assists for six goals in five games.<\/p>\n

Hopefully, McDavid will follow the path of fellow first-overall selection Auston Matthews, and have a recovery that resembles his skating. We wish Connor well and hope to see him healthy at the begin of the 2020-21 season.<\/p>\n
