Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for October 3, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hallgl01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Glenn Hall<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Goalie Glenn Hall Born<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1931:<\/strong> The Hall of Fame goalie is born in Humbolt, Saskatchewan. Hall won 407 games in an 18-year NHL career with three teams. He played for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/redwings\/\" target=\"_self\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_self\">Chicago Black Hawks<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/blues\/\" target=\"_self\">St. Louis Blues<\/a> over his storied tenure.<\/p>\n<p>Hall was a key part of Chicago&#8217;s 1961 Stanley Cup victory with an 8-4 record and 2.02 goals-against-average. He also starts a seemingly unbreakable record of 502 consecutive games. Hall enters the Hall of Fame in 1975 with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pilotpi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pierre Pilote<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/armstge01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">George Armstrong<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=baileac01,bailega01&amp;search=Ace+Bailey&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ace Bailey<\/a><\/strong> and <span data-sort-value=\"Drillon, Gordie\"><span class=\"vcard\"><span class=\"fn\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/drillgo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gordie Drillon<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1953:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_self\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> sign forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/belivje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jean Beliveau<\/a> to his first professional contract. He gets a goal and an assist later that night in his debut against the NHL All-Stars. Beliveau&#8217;s road to the Habs is an unusual one as the team bought out the Quebec Senior Hockey League. This allows Montreal to get him because they had his professional rights. The Canadiens tried for three seasons to land the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2020\/08\/24\/today-in-hockey-history-gordie-howe-jean-beliveau-inducted-into-hall-of-fame\/\" target=\"_self\">future Hall of Famer<\/a> who went on to win 10 Stanley Cups.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1996:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/kings\/\" target=\"_self\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> name <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/blakero01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rob Blake<\/a> as their 11the team captain. Blake replaces <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gretzwa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne Gretzky<\/a> in the role after he was traded to the St. Louis Blues at last season&#8217;s trade deadline. He dons the &#8220;C&#8221; until the 2001 deadline when he&#8217;s traded to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_self\">Colorado Avalanche<\/a>. The Simcoe, Ontario native retires in 2010 and enters the Hall of Fame in 2014.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1997:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/canucks\/\" target=\"_self\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a> beat the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/ducks\/\" target=\"_self\">Mighty Ducks of Anaheim<\/a>, 3-2, at Yoyogi Arena in Tokyo in the first regular season game played outside North America. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/walkesc01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scott Walker<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/messima01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Messier<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/burepa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pavel Bure<\/a><\/strong> score goals to give the Canucks the win. Anaheim&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/knutses01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Espen Knutsen<\/a><\/strong> is the first player born and trained in Norway to play an NHL game. The Mighty Ducks win the rematch, 3-2, the next day.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/roypa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patrick Roy<\/a><\/strong> is the eighth goalie to reach 350 wins in a 4-1 win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/flames\/\" target=\"_self\">Calgary Flames.<\/a> Roy stops 26 shots in the victory for Colorado.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2009:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/devils\/\" target=\"_self\">New Jersey Devils<\/a> goalie<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brodema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Martin Brodeur<\/a><\/strong> sets a record for his 15th straight opening night start.
