Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for September 29, featuring the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/kings\/\" target=\"_self\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/ducks\/\" target=\"_self\">Anaheim Ducks<\/a> playing the Premiere Series.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Kings, Ducks Play Premiere Series in London<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2007:<\/strong> The Southern California rivals play the first NHL games in London at the O2 Arena. It&#8217;s the first of two games to kick off the 2007-08 season between the Ducks and Kings. Rookie goalie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bernijo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jonathan Bernier<\/a><\/strong> makes 26 saves <span id=\"token-936CC8B302DC28844B79A\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cammami01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Cammalleri<\/a><\/strong> scores twice in a 4-1 Kings win.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Over 17,000 fans attend the event with fans coming from across Europe. Several wore jerseys from their respective national teams.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1963:<\/strong> Hockey Hall of Famer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/andreda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dave Andreychuk<\/a><\/strong> is born in Hamilton, Ontario. He plays 1,639 games during his 23 seasons in the NHL and finishes with 640 goals. Andreychuk scores a record 247 power-play goals over his long career. He finally wins his first Stanley Cup in 2004 with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/lightning\/\" target=\"_self\">Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a> and reaches the Hall in 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1976:<\/strong> The Kings acquire <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/schulda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dave Schultz<\/a><\/strong> from the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/flyers\/\" target=\"_self\"> Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> for a pair of draft picks. He plays parts of two seasons with the Kings before going to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/penguins\/\" target=\"_self\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>. The enforcer gets 232 penalty minutes in his only full season in Southern California.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1997:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/blues\/\" target=\"_self\"> St. Louis Blues<\/a> name defenceman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/prongch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Pronger<\/a><\/strong> as their 16th team captain. He is the youngest captain in their history at 22 years of age. Pronger serves as<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2020\/07\/27\/today-in-hockey-history-st-louis-blues-trade-brendan-shanahan-for-chris-pronger\/\" target=\"_self\"> team captain for six seasons<\/a> before giving the &#8220;C&#8221; to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/macinal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Al MacInnis<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/rangers\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Rangers<\/a> acquire centre<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lafonpa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pat LaFontaine<\/a><\/strong> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/sabres\/\" target=\"_self\">Buffalo Sabres<\/a> in a trade. LaFontaine is one of the few players to play for all three New York-based teams. He gets 62 points with 23 goals and 39 assists in 67 games. However,he sustains a career-ending concussion on March 16, 1998. He retires seven months later and is inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1999:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/jets\/\" target=\"_self\">Atlanta Thrashers<\/a> name <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/buchbke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kelly Buchberger<\/a><\/strong> as their first team captain. He is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Edmonton Oilers and plays 68 games with Atlanta. His time as captain is short as he&#8217;s traded to the Kings in March 2000.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2002:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/devils\/\" target=\"_self\">New Jersey Devils<\/a> bring back former star player <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/maclejo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John MacLean<\/a><\/strong> as an assistant coach.
