We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for September 25, featuring the addition of three Original Six members. These clubs are the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_self\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/redwings\/\" target=\"_self\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Original Six Members Chicago, Detroit Enter<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1926:<\/strong> The league adds teams in Chicago and Detroit for the 1926-27 seasons. This means the league is now 10 teams with two divisions. Detroit takes the name Cougars because it purchases the Victoria Cougars and its players. They turn into the Red Wings in 1932. The club also had the name Falcons for 1930-32. Chicago calls itself the Black Hawks, who names the team in honor of his military unit in World War I.<\/p>\n<p>Detroit, Chicago and the expansion franchise in New York, known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/rangers\/\" target=\"_self\">Rangers<\/a>, are placed in a new American Division with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/bruins\/\" target=\"_self\">Boston Bruins<\/a> and Pittsburgh Pirates. The New York Americans join the four Canadian teams in the Canadian Division.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><b>1984:<\/b><strong> <span id=\"token-ADDBDA49505E44333BB89\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/esposph01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phil Esposito<\/a><\/span>, <span id=\"token-3F3721D61495D6EEDBA86\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lemaija01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacques Lemaire<\/a><\/span><\/strong> and <span id=\"token-637514FD8FB204D53D182\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/parenbe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bernie Parent<\/a><\/strong> are enter the Hockey Hall of Fame. <strong>Jake Milford<\/strong> and <strong>Punch Imlach<\/strong> are also part of this year&#8217;s class. Imlach is the architect of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/leafs\/\" target=\"_self\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> four Stanley Cups in the 1960s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1987:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/islanders\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Islanders<\/a> defenceman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/potvide01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Denis Potvin<\/a><\/strong> announces his retirement at the end of the 1987-88 season. The legendary blueliner is a four-time Stanley Cup champion and three-time Norris Trophy winner. Potvin is one of the few holdovers from the Isles&#8217; 1980s dynasty.<\/p>\n<p>1997: The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/penguins\/\" target=\"_self\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> sign free agent goaltender <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/skudrpe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Peter Skudra<\/a><\/strong> to a contract. Skudra plays in 74 career games and gets 26 wins with a .894 save percentage and 2.71 goals-against-average.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2002:<\/strong> The NHL awards the 2004 NHL All-Star Game to the Twins Cities of Minneapolis\/St. Paul. That would be the last All-Star showcase until 2007 due to lockouts and the Olympics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2019:<\/strong> The incoming Seattle franchise hires Cammi Granato as the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2019\/09\/25\/seattle-hires-cammi-granato-as-first-female-pro-scout\/\" target=\"_self\"> first female pro scout.<\/a> Granato played for the gold medal-winning American squad in the 1998 Olympics.
