The forward is coming off of a deal originally signed by the Montreal Canadiens, although he ended the contract as a member of the Minnesota Wild. His new deal is one-year in length and has a $1.05 million cap hit.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Hearing that the Ottawa Senators are close to signing UFA forward Alex Galchenyuk.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PierreVLeBrun\/status\/1321477931202392070?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 28, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2><b>Alex Galchenyuk<\/b><b> Signs With the Senators<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over his eight-year NHL career, Galchenyuk has played for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_self\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_self\">Arizona Coyotes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/penguins\/\" target=\"_self\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/wild\/\" target=\"_self\">Minnesota Wild<\/a>. He has put up <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">135<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> goals and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">185 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">assists for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">320 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">career points in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">549<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> career games. He was originally drafted in the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">first<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> round, third-<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">overall of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2012<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> NHL draft by the Montreal Canadiens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last season, he split time with the Penguins and the Wild and scored eight goals and 24 points in 59 games to finish the season. He&#8217;s had a bit of an up-and-down career, with a career-high of 56 points and 30 goals. Those are impressive numbers and is a ceiling that many hope he can reach once again. Clearly, Ottawa is among that group of hopefuls.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What This Means for the Future<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alex Galchenyuk is playing for his fifth team in three seasons. Despite being a 30-goal scorer back in 2015-16, his play has fallen off a bit since his time with the Canadiens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But at only 26, he is not that old and this new opportunity might give him a chance to turn things around. Coming into Ottawa, they likely won\u2019t depend on Galchenyuk to be the team\u2019s best offensive player. Rather he may be a complementary player somewhere in the top-nine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In many ways, this is a great fresh start for Galchenyuk, to reboot his NHL career and potential land himself a long-term extension.
