Even though he wanted to stay with the Boston Bruins, he repeatedly told them he was not going to take a home-town discount. Well, the Bruins and restricted free agent Jake DeBrusk have come to an agreement that will keep the forward in Boston. The son of former NHLer and current Sportsnet broadcaster, Louie DeBrusk, Jake was originally taken in the first round, 14th overall by the Bruins in the 2015 NHL Draft. Over the past couple of seasons, DeBrusk has been a key contributor for the Bruins especially their run to the 2019 Stanley Cup Final. In his career, DeBrusk has recorded 120 points (62 goals and 58 assists) in 203 career regular-season games. Appearing in 49 post-season games, DeBrusk recorded 23 points (14 goals and nine assists).

DeBrusk was on pace to break the 40-point mark again this season, however, COVID-19 got in the way. He fell short recording 35 points (19 goals and 16 assists) rotating between the second and third lines. DeBrusk has shown his ability to be a top-six forward and will bring a scoring touch to the Bruins. Not to mention his playoff experience. This season with the Bruins, DeBrusk scored four goals in 13 games.

What Lies Ahead

Playing alongside good players like DeBrusk did in Boston always helps boost your statistics. Not to mention it shows that he has the ability to play top-line minutes, but not a consistent pace. The Bruins will need for him to continue his pace of production if they want to stay competitive in the Eastern Conference. For DeBrusk, he needs to be more consistent as a top player on the Bruins. He is best suited for the second-line role. He will thrive again playing alongside centre David Krejci. Not only that but now DeBrusk will be in a position to succeed. In addition, DeBrusk will need to keep his production on an upward trajectory for the price he is getting paid.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

It was announced that Boston Bruins re-signed forward Jake DeBrusk is going to sign a two-year contract worth $7.35 million.
