Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for September 20, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/laflegu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guy Lafleur<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Canadiens Star Guy Lafleur Born<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1951:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_self\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> star of the 1970s dynasty is born in Thurso, Quebec. He goes first in the 1971 NHL Draft after a successful career with Quebec of the QMJHL. &#8220;The Flower&#8221; averages 26 goals in his first three seasons but breaks out with 53 in the 1974-75 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>He wins three straight <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rossar01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Art Ross<\/a> Trophies and the Conn Smythe and Hart Trophies in 1976-77. Montreal wins four straight Stanley Cups with Lafleur is the main focus. He retires early in the 1984-85 season, but he returns with the New York Rangers in 1988-89. The 1988 Hockey Hall of Famer wraps up his career with the Quebec Nordiques.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1991:<\/strong> Montreal and the New Jersey Devils make a deal that benefits both teams. The Habs get <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mulleki01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kirk Muller<\/a><\/strong> and <span id=\"token-FAC7A8BA71FB99F52F3B5\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/melanro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Roland Melanson<\/a><\/strong> while the Devils acquire <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=richest02,richest01&amp;search=Stephane+Richer&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stephane Richer<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/chorsto01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Chorske<\/a><\/strong>. Muller helps the Canadiens win the Stanley Cup in 1993 while Richer and Chorske win the Devils a Cup in 1995.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_self\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> trade forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/preslwa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne Presley<\/a><\/strong> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/sharks\/\" target=\"_self\">San Jose Sharks<\/a> for a third-round pick. Presley scores eight goals with the Sharks before being sent to the Buffalo Sabres in the middle of the season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1999:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_self\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/ducks\/\" target=\"_self\">Mighty Ducks of Anaheim<\/a> play a wild pre-season game in the final game at the Great Western Forum. Los Angeles gets an 8-1 victory, but there are plenty of fireworks on the ice. Ducks coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hartscr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Craig Hartsburg<\/a> and Kings coach Andy Murray get into a shouting match with each other. There were six fights and 149 penalty minutes in the third period.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2000:<\/strong> Hockey returns to the state of Ohio when the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/blue-jackets\/\" target=\"_self\">Columbus Blue Jackets<\/a> play their first pre-season game. The Jackets are the first team to represent the state since the Cleveland Barons ceased operations in 1978. Columbus defeats the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_self\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a>, 5-2, in front of 18,136 at Nationwide Arena.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2013:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/flames\/\" target=\"_self\">Calgary Flames<\/a> name defenceman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/giordma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Giordano<\/a><\/strong> as the team&#8217;s 20th captain.
