With the Seattle Kraken’s expansion draft coming after next season, teams will need to prepare for losses. With the capability to protect only one goaltender, Vancouver has a big decision to make. Markstrom has been very impressive for the Canucks this season and is worth an extension. They also have a potential young stud coming up in Thatcher Demko. Demko will be eligible for selection by Seattle if he goes unprotected.

An ideal scenario would be to sign Markstrom to a one year deal and then allow him to go into free agency next offseason. This gives Vancouver a solid netminder to start between the pipes next year. They can keep Demko as a backup but with a more even split of games. Markstrom can then head for a payday on the open market in the following offseason. Demko would then be the clear cut starter that they will protect in the expansion draft. If playoffs appear to be out of the question as the season progresses, they could also flip Markstrom to a contending team in need of goaltending.

Montreal Canadiens

Rumour: TSN insider Darren Dreger is reporting that upcoming free agent Taylor Hall is highly interested in joining the Montreal Canadiens next season.

Taylor Hall could be a perfect fit at the perfect time for the Montreal Canadiens.
