We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for August 27th featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lachel01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elmer Lach<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Elmer Lach Part of 1966 HOF Class<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1966:<\/strong> A pair of Montreal Canadiens make the Hall of Fame on this date. Lach and linemate <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/blaketo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toe Blake<\/a><\/strong> are welcomed into hockey&#8217;s hallowed shrine. The duo were part of the famous &#8220;Punch Line&#8221; along with the great<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/richama01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maurice Richard<\/a><\/strong>. Lach won the 1945 Hart Trophy winner and scored 215 goals in 664 games.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lindste01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ted Lindsay<\/a>, <span id=\"token-04BAAE477B43B08275C9A\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bouchbu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Butch Bouchard<\/a><\/span>, <span id=\"token-4E90DF05C894231143DB8\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brimsfr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frank Brimsek<\/a><\/span>, <span id=\"token-BB096AE2058570C8E2AB3\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/reardke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ken Reardon<\/a><\/span>, <span id=\"token-8AE998D94F164C89A5B83\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/prattba01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Babe Pratt<\/a><\/span>, <span id=\"token-24230D195561BCF6E3295\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kennete01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ted Kennedy<\/a><\/span> <\/strong>and <span id=\"token-CD5727380054CADE726BA\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bentlma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Max Bentley<\/a><\/strong> are inducted as players. Former league president Clarence Campbell enters the hal as a builder.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1962:<\/strong> Future Hall of Famer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/o\/oatesad01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adam Oates<\/a><\/strong> is born in Weston, Ontario. He plays in the NCAA after being called too slow. Oates would go to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and lead the Engineers to the 1985 NCAA title. RPI would go 85-19 during his tenure.<\/p>\n<p>He signs with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a>, but his career blossoms with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Blues.<\/a> The 2012 Hall of Famer would also play with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/capitals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Capitals<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/ducks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mighty Ducks of Anaheim<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/oilers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a>. He finishes with 341 goals, 1,079 assists and 1,420 points in 1,337 NHL games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1970:<\/strong> The Hall of Fame welcomes more new members. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gadsbbi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bill Gadsby<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/j\/johnsto01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Johnson<\/a>, and Cecil \u201cBabe\u201d Dye<\/strong> all gain entry to hockey&#8217;s shrine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1974:<\/strong> Detroit acquires former Calder Trophy winner <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/grantda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Danny Grant<\/a><\/strong> from the Minnesota North Stars. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bouchhe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henry Boucha<\/a><\/strong> comes over from the Red Wings in return.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1981:<\/strong> Soviet great <strong>Valeri Kharlamov<\/strong> dies in a car accident at the age of 33. He makes it to the IIHF, Hockey Hall of Fame and Russian Hockey Hall of Fame. One of the divisions in KHL is named after him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1992:<\/strong> Montreal gets <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/damphvi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vincent Damphousse<\/a><\/strong> from Edmonton in exchange for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/corsosh01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shayne Corson<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gilchbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brent Gilchrist<\/a><\/strong>. Damphousse scores at least 38 goals three times with the Habs and wins the Stanley Cup in 1993.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> trade <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcsorma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marty McSorley<\/a><\/strong> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mceacsh01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shawn McEachern<\/a><\/strong> comes to the Kings in exchange.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1996:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/lightning\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a> obtain <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/ciccadi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dino Ciccarelli<\/a><\/strong> from the Red Wings for a conditional draft pick 1998. He scores 35 goals with the Lightning in his first season with the club.<\/p>\n<p>Boston signs free agent goalie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cheveti01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tim Cheveldae<\/a><\/strong> to a contract.
