We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for August 22nd featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/barbebi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bill Barber<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Flyers Bill Barber Retires<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1985:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flyers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> forward retires after suffering from chronic knee problems. Barber scored at least 20 goals in all 12 seasons with the Flyers. The Callander, Ontario native finished his career with 420 goals and 883 points in 903 games. Barber&#8217;s season-high in goals was 50 in 80 games during the 1975-76 season.<\/p>\n<p>He ends his playing career tied with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/macleri01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rick MacLeish<\/a><\/strong> in playoff goals with 53. Barber is a part of the 1975 and 1976 Stanley Cup championship teams and gets one with the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/lightning\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Tampa Bay Lighting<\/a> organization in 2004. He also wins a Calder Cup as coach of the AHL champion Philadelphia Phantoms and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/adamsja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jack Adams<\/a> as Flyers coach in 2000-01. Barber reaches the Hall of Fame in 1990.<\/p>\n<h2>Other Notable Events<\/h2>\n<p><strong>1972:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Montreal Canadiens<\/a> trade <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/harpete01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Terry Harper<\/a><\/strong> to the Los Angeles Kings for a package of four draft picks. Harper is a five-time Stanley Cup-winning defenceman for the Habs and immediately helps the Kings. Los Angeles has their best season with 105 points in Harper&#8217;s first season with the squad. <span id=\"token-576549AEE6C2F0C30F796\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mondopi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pierre Mondou<\/a><\/strong> is the only draft pick to make an impact with the Canadiens. Mondou plays eight full seasons with the Canadiens, finishing with 456 points (194 goals, 262 assists) in 548 NHL games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1974: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mooredi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dickie Moore<\/a><\/strong> highlights the seven-person Hall of Fame class that is announced. The Canadiens forward was an integral part of the 1950s dynasty. Moore leads the NHL in scoring in 1957-58 and 1958-59, and is part of six Stanley Cup-winning teams in Montreal, including five in a row from 1956-60. <strong><span id=\"token-67ED740B70C33D0F894A8\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/coultar01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Art Coulter<\/a>,<\/span> <\/strong><span id=\"token-15FA99B0B73EC6C92E2A3\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><strong>Billy Birch<\/strong> and<strong> Thomas Dunderdale<\/strong> are inducted as players. Former executive Tommy Ivan, referee-in-chief <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/v\/vossca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carl Voss<\/a> and Charles Hay are also selected to the Hall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1977:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> name <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/talboje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jean-Guy Talbot<\/a> as the team&#8217;s new head coach. He replaces <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/fergujo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Ferguson<\/a> behind the bench.
