He captains the 1974 and 1975 Stanley Cup-winning Philadelphia teams. Clarke is not taken until the 17th pick of the 1969 NHL Draft. He sets a team record for points in his third season with a 81.<\/p>\n<p>The Flyers captain scores an overtime-winner in Game 2 of the Final against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins<\/a>. Philadelphia wins the series in six games and repeats with a victory over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/sabres\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buffalo Sabres<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> deny Philadelphia a three-peat in 1976. He finishes his NHL career with 1,210 points (358 goals, 852 assists) in 1,144 games and wins the <span id=\"token-E4B5B8974D408BE927AAD\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\">Hart Trophy<\/span> three times.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1938:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota North Stars<\/a> forward<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mastebi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bill Masterton<\/a><\/strong> is born in Winnipeg. He gets checked hard into the boards in a game against the Oakland Seals on January 13, 1968. Masterton lands on his head and dies two days later. The Masterton Trophy for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey is created in his honour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1973: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/turcoma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marty Turco<\/a><\/strong> is born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Turco owns the record for lowest single-season goals-against-average with 1.72 GAA in 55 games during the 2002-03 season with the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Dallas Stars<\/a>. It&#8217;s lowest GAA since <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kerrda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dave Kerr<\/a><\/strong> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> 63 years earlier. Turco plays nine seasons with the Stars and one each with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> and the Bruins. He ends his career with a 275-167-40 record with 26 ties in 543 games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2000:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> sign veteran defenceman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/schnema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mathieu Schneider<\/a><\/strong> to a deal. He plays two-plus seasons with the Kings before heading to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wing<\/a>s in deal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2002:<\/strong> Dallas signs veteran forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/dahleul01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ulf Dahlen<\/a><\/strong> to a free agent contract. The 35-year-old was part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/capitals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Capitals<\/a> during the previous season.
