Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for August 11th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/doughdr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Drew Doughty<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Drew Doughty Signs With Kings<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2008:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> sign the second overall pick of the 2008 NHL Draft to a contract. Doughty leads all rookies in ice time with 23:49 per game. He also gets six goals and 27 points in his first season with Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Doughty becomes a key part of the Kings reversal of fortunes in the 2010&#8217;s. He helps Los Angeles win Stanley Cups in 2012 and 2014. The London, Ontario native also wins the Norris Trophy for top defenceman in 2016.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1914:<\/strong> Hockey Hall of Famer <strong>Rudy Pilous<\/strong> is born in Winnipeg. He wins a Stanley Cup with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> as coach in 1961. Pilous also coaches various junior hockey teams and is general manager and coach for the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Winnipeg Jets<\/a> in the WHA. He is the GM when the Jets win the AVCO World Trophy in 1976, 1978, and 1979.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1920:<\/strong> Former New York Americans and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> goalie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/raynech01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chuck Rayner<\/a><\/strong> is born in Sutherland, Saskatchewan. His best season is in 1949-50 with the Rangers when he wins the Hart Trophy. He goes 28-30 with 11 ties and gets New York into the postseason. Rayner helps the Rangers upset the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> in the semifinals. He nearly leads the team to the Cup, but <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/babanpe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pete Babando<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s overtime-winner helped the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1958:<\/strong> Notorious agitator <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/linseke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ken Linseman<\/a><\/strong> is born in Kingston, Ontario. He plays in 860 games and earns 1,727 penalty minutes in his long career. &#8220;The Rat&#8221; also totals 807 points in games with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flyers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/oilers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1989: Gord Stellick<\/strong> resigns as general manager of the Maple Leafs after one season. He was the member of the organization for the last 17 years and was the youngest general manager in league history.
