We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for August 10th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/leyri01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rick Ley<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Rick Ley Hired By Vancouver<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1994:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a> make a coaching change after losing in the 1994 Stanley Cup Final. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/q\/quinnpa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pat Quinn<\/a><\/strong> remains with the team as general manager and wants to focus on those duties. Ley lasts less than two seasons and is fired in the middle of the 1995-96.<\/p>\n<p>The coaching change means that both Stanley Cup finalists have new bench bosses.<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/campbco01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colin Campbell<\/a><\/strong> takes over as <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> head coach just a day earlier. He replaces <strong>Mike Keenan<\/strong>, who goes to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Blues<\/a>. Campbell lasts less than four seasons as boss, including a trip to the Eastern Conference Final in 1996-97. He&#8217;s fired the next season after 57 games.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1987:<\/strong> The Rangers sign free agent <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/laviope01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Peter Laviolette<\/a><\/strong> to a contract. He only plays 12 games and doesn&#8217;t record a point. Laviolette resurfaces in New York 12 years later as the coach of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/islanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Islanders<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/ducks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mighty Ducks of Anaheim<\/a> make their first trade in franchise history. Anaheim obtains forwards <strong><span id=\"token-5DB36753A7F39B49449B1\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/ewento01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Todd Ewen<\/a><\/span><\/strong> and <span id=\"token-0A9DA7D74A95CC4DD1BA6\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/carnbpa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patrik Carnback<\/a><\/strong> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a>. Montreal gets a third-round pick from Anaheim in return.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Florida Panthers<\/a> would sign forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hulljo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jody Hull<\/a><\/strong> to deal. He plays parts of five seasons with the club and scores 20 goals in the 1995-96 campaign.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1995:<\/strong> The recently-moved Quebec Nordiques unveil their new name after completing their move to Denver. Quebec takes the name of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colorado Avalanche<\/a> and go with the colours of burgundy, blue and silver. Colorado wins the Stanley Cup in its first season after moving out west.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/sharks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Jose Sharks<\/a> ink <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brownda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dave Brown<\/a><\/strong> to a new contract. It would be the last stop in his career as he played 37 games and scored three goals in his last NHL season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2004:<\/strong> The Rangers sign free agent centre <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nylanmi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Nylander<\/a><\/strong> to a deal.
