Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for August 7th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/crosbsi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sidney Crosby<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Sidney Crosby Born in Nova Scotia<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1987:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> centre is born on this date in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. Crosby is the coveted prize of the 2005 NHL Draft after two seasons with Rimouski\u00a0 of the QMJHL. He puts up 135 and 168 points, respectively, in those seasons with the Oceanic.<\/p>\n<p>The playmaker immediately makes his mark on the league with 39 goals and 102 points in his rookie season. He becomes the youngest player to with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rossar01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Art Ross<\/a> Trophy at 19-years-old with 120 points. Crosby becomes captain in 2007 and has led the franchise to three Stanley Cups in his tenure.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1979:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Blues<\/a> trade <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/roulsto01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Roulston<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/siltari01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Risto Siltanen<\/a><\/strong> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/oilers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a>. St. Louis would get <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/michejo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Micheletti<\/a><\/strong> in return.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1990:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota North Stars<\/a> bring back <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/smithbo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bobby Smith<\/a><\/strong> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a>. Montreal gets a future draft choice in exchange and Smith plays his final three seasons with Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1992: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hasekdo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dominik Hasek<\/a><\/strong> is traded to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/sabres\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buffalo Sabres<\/a> by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>. &#8220;The Dominator&#8221; gets a chance to become a full-time starter and takes advantage. Hasek wins five Vezina Trophies and two Hart Trophies. The Czech netminder wins a Stanley Cup with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> in 2002. He finishes his career in 2008 with 389 wins, a 2.20 goals-against average, .922 save percentage and 81 shutouts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1997:<\/strong> Pittsburgh signs Czech forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/strakma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Martin Straka<\/a><\/strong> to a contract. He would score 35 goals for the Penguins in the 1998-99 season. Straka would play parts of seven seasons with the Penguins organization.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1999:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/hurricanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/a> sign veteran goalie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/fitzpma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Fitzpatrick<\/a><\/strong> to a free agent deal. He played the last season in Chicago and went 6-8-6 with a 2.64 goals-against-average.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2002:<\/strong> The Penguins claim<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/islanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> New York Islanders<\/a> defenceman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/tarnsdi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dick Tarnstrom<\/a><\/strong> off waivers.
