Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for August 2nd, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/skinnje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeff Skinner<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Jeff Skinner Traded to Buffalo<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2018:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/sabres\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buffalo Sabres<\/a> gets the former <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/hurricanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/a> forward for prospect <strong>Cliff Pu<\/strong> and three draft picks. Skinner was a three-time 30-goal scorer with Carolina before coming to Western New York. The Markham, Ontario native was the seventh overall pick of the 2010 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n<p>Skinner scores 40 goals in his first season with the Sabres, including scoring 20 before December. He ends the season with a flourish as he scores a pair of goals in the season finale against the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Detroit Red Wings<\/a>. The left wing netted 14 goals in 59 games in the 2019-20 season.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1993:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flyers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> signed free agents <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/tippeda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dave Tippett<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/finleje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeff Finley<\/a><\/strong>. It&#8217;s Tippett&#8217;s last NHL season before heading to the Houston Aeros of the IHL as a player\/coach. Finley spends one season with the Flyers before going to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Winnipeg Jets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1994:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/oilers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> name <strong>George Burnett<\/strong> as the team&#8217;s new head coach. He replaces <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sathegl01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Glen Sather<\/a><\/strong>, who stays on as general manager.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1995:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Boston Bruins<\/a> obtain <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/steveke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Stevens<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mceacsh01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shawn McEachern<\/a><\/strong> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>. Pittsburgh gets <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/murragl01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Glen Murray<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/smolibr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bryan Smolinski<\/a><\/strong> and Boston&#8217;s third-round choice in the 199 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1999:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> sign unrestricted free agent forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/clarkwe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wendel Clark<\/a><\/strong>. He plays only 13 games before returning to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>. The Leafs took Clark first overall in the 1985 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/ferrara01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ray Ferraro<\/a><\/strong> signs a free agent contract with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlanta Thrashers<\/a>. Ferraro plays parts of three seasons in Georgia before being dealt to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Blues<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Defenceman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/karpada01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dave Karpa<\/a><\/strong> inks a free agent deal with the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/hurricanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Carolina Hurricanes<\/a>. Karpa plays pars of two more teams with the Hurricanes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2005:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blue-jackets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Columbus Blue Jackets<\/a> sign free agent defenceman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/footead01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adam Foote<\/a>.<\/strong> He had spent the previous 13 seasons with the Quebec Nordiques\/<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colorado Avalanche<\/a> organization. Foote spends most of three seasons in the Ohio capital before being traded back to the Avalanche.
