{"id":8181,"date":"2017-03-30T17:33:11","date_gmt":"2017-03-30T21:33:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/?p=8181"},"modified":"2017-03-30T17:43:53","modified_gmt":"2017-03-30T21:43:53","slug":"steven-stamkos-back-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2017\/03\/30\/steven-stamkos-back-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Steven Stamkos Could Be Back This Weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Tampa Bay Lightning are in the midst of a major battle for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. \u00a0Their playoff chances could be getting a huge boost as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/news\/tampa-bays-steven-stamkos-may-be-ready-to-return\/c-288219026\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NHL.com is reporting<\/a> that captain <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stamkst01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steven Stamkos<\/a><\/strong> could be back as early as this weekend. The Lightning have officially listed Stamkos as day-to-day, but he took part in full practice on Thursday. Stamkos practiced on a line with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gourdya01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yanni Gourde<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/ernead01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adam Erne<\/a><\/strong>, as well as practicing on the powerplay.<\/p>\n<h2>Steven Stamkos Could Be Back This Weekend<\/h2>\n<p>Stamkos has been out most of the season with a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee. \u00a0He has been out since <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2016\/11\/17\/tampa-bay-lightning-steven-stamkos-undergo-surgery-4-6-months\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">undergoing surgery<\/a> to repair the damage on November 17, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s progressing really well,&#8221; Stamkos said. &#8220;Everything has gone according to plan. You just want to keep progressing every day and feeling comfortable and confident on the ice. Today was probably the best day yet.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In 17 games played for the Bolts this season, Stamkos has scored nine goals and has added 11 assists, putting him at 20 points. When he was injured, he was tied for second in NHL scoring with with Dallas Stars forward<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/seguity01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyler Seguin<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Stamkos signed a massive eight-year, $68 million contract this past off-season. \u00a0He re-signed with Tampa shortly before the opening of free agency last June.<\/p>\n<p>The Lightning take on the Detroit Red Wings tonight, and while it is unlikely that Stamkos will play; he could be back for Saturday&#8217;s contest against the Montreal Canadiens or Sunday&#8217;s contest against the Dallas Stars.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think you know me well enough to know that I want to be out there at all times and be a difference-maker,&#8221; the Lightning captain said. &#8220;It&#8217;s hard this time of year not to be involved, but the guys have played great as of late. Just being around a lot more in the past couple of weeks and competing in practice gives me the itch, for sure. I want to get back as soon as possible.
