We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for July 29th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lindste01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ted Lindsay<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Hall of Famer Ted Lindsay is Born<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1925:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> great is born in Renfrew, Ontario. He&#8217;s a member of Detroit&#8217;s famous &#8220;Production Line&#8221; along with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/howego01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gordie Howe<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/abelsi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sid Abel<\/a><\/strong>. All three of which would become Hall of Famer players. Lindsay played on the right-wing, Howe was on the left and Abel centred the group.<\/p>\n<p>He gets the nickname &#8220;Terrible Ted&#8221; because he was willing to do anything to win. Lindsay is a First Team All-Star eight times during his career. He wins the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rossar01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Art Ross<\/a> Trophy for top-scorer in 1950. However, he&#8217;s sent to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> in 1957 after <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/adamsja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jack Adams<\/a><\/strong> is angered by Lindsay&#8217;s effort to create a union.<\/p>\n<p>Lindsay finishes his NHL career with 851 points (379 goals, 472 assists) in 1,068 games and plays on four Stanley Cup-winning teams. He makes the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966. The Ted Lindsay Award for the top player voted by the players in made in 2010. He passed away at age 93 in March 2019.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1985: Jean Perron<\/strong> becomes the new head coach of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a>. He replaces <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lemaija01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacques Lemaire<\/a><\/strong> behind the bench. who becomes Director of Hockey Personnel. Lemaire also becomes assistant managing director to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/savarse01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Serge Savard<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/lightning\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a> sign free agent <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/savarde01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Denis Savard<\/a><\/strong> from the Canadiens. He scores 18 goals in his first and only full seasons with the club.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1994:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> sign free agent <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/craigmi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Craig<\/a><\/strong> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dallas Stars<\/a>. Dallas would get <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/z\/zezelpe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Peter Zezel<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/marshgr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grant Marshall<\/a><\/strong> as compensation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1994:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> trade forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/robitlu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luc Robitaille<\/a><\/strong> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/tocchri01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rick Tocchet<\/a><\/strong> and a second-round pick. Robitaille returns to Los Angeles in 1997 but joins the Detroit super team in 2002. He finished his career with the Kings after signing with them in 2003.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2003:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Boston Bruins<\/a> announced that they&#8217;ll retire <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/neelyca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cam Neely<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s #8 jersey alongside the nine other numbers in the rafters. Neely had his jersey retired on January 8, 2004.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2005:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> sign <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lundqhe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henrik Lundqvist<\/a><\/strong> five years after drafting him in 2000. He shockingly makes the team out of training camp and becomes the starter early in 2005-06.
