Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for July 28th, featuring<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sedinhe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henrik Sedin<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sedinda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daniel Sedin<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin Sign With Canucks<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1999:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a> sign the Swedish twins to their first professional contract. Both Sedins are highly regarded prospects and want to play together. General manager Brian Burke manages to make a bunch of trades to allow the Canucks to select the duo. Daniel is taken second overall while Henrik is picked third.<\/p>\n<p>They spend their entire 18-year career together and retire after the 2017-18 season. Henrik wins the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rossar01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Art Ross<\/a> and Hart Trophies in the 2009-10 while Daniel takes the Art Ross in 2010-11. Both earn a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/clancki01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">King Clancy<\/a> Trophy for leadership and humanitarian contributions in their community.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1992:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> sign undrated free agent <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brashdo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Donald Brashear<\/a>.<\/strong> The enforcer led the league in penalty minutes for six seasons and ranks 15th all-time in PIMs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Detroit Red Wings<\/a> sign<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/tayloti01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tim Taylor<\/a><\/strong> to a deal. The Tool Man scores 11 goals in the 1995-96 season with the Wings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1995: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/corsosh01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shayne Corson<\/a><\/strong> signs a deal with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Blues<\/a> . The veteran forward scores 18 goals with the team in the 1995-96 season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1997:<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/messima01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Messier<\/a><\/strong> signs a three-year contract with the Canucks after six seasons with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers.<\/a> Messier&#8217;s time in the Pacific Northwest isn&#8217;t the greatest as he gets 22 goals and 60 points in his first season. Injuries limit Messier to only 59 and 66 games in his last two seasons. Vancouver misses the post-season all three years and Messier returns to New York for the 2000-01 season.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dallas Stars<\/a> also sign veteran forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/erreybo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bob Errey<\/a><\/strong> to a contract. He lasts only 59 games before going over to the Rangers later in the season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1998: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/y\/youngsc01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scott Young<\/a><\/strong> signs a deal with the Blues after a season with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/ducks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mighty Ducks of Anaheim<\/a>.
