We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for July 24th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/robitlu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luc Robitaille<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Kings Bring Back Luc Robitaille<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2003:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Los Angeles Kings<\/a> bring back the left wing for a third stint with the club. Robitaille returns after a couple of years with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a>. He helps Detroit win the Stanley Cup in 2002, but has his ice time cut in 2002-03. The former ninth-round pick scores 22 goals for Los Angeles in 2003-04 and leads the Kings with 51 points, then retires after scoring 15 goals in 2005-06.<\/p>\n<p>Robitaille started his career in Southern California in 1986 and plays there until 1994. He&#8217;s traded to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> and plays there until 1997. His 668 goals and 1,394 points are still NHL records for a left wing.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1994:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> get <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nedvepe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Petr Nedved<\/a><\/strong> as compensation from the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Blues<\/a>. This stems from<strong> Mike Keenan<\/strong> becoming the Blues new head coach and general manager. Keenan had led the Rangers to their first title since 1940, but he left days later. The Blues also get <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lidstdo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Doug Lidster<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/tikkaes01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Esa Tikkanen<\/a><\/strong> to come to the Arch City.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1995:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Florida Panthers<\/a> hire<strong> Doug MacLean<\/strong> as their new head coach. He replaces <strong>Roger Neilson<\/strong> behind the bench and leads Florida to the Stanley Cup Final. The Panthers would be swept by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colorado Avalanche<\/a> in four games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1997:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/sharks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Jose Sharks<\/a> would acquire <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mattest01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stephane Matteau<\/a><\/strong> in a trade with the Blues. San Jose would get <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/turcoda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Darren Turcotte<\/a><\/strong> in return.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2000:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flames\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calgary Flames<\/a> sign free agent forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lowryda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dave Lowry<\/a><\/strong> to a contract. Lowry becomes the team captain during the subsequent 2000-01 season.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/wild\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Wild<\/a> ink 15-year veteran defenceman<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/daignjj01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">J.J. Daigneault<\/a><\/strong> to a deal. He only plays one game before heading to Switzerland to play for EHC Biel-Bienne.Daigneault would play his final games that season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2001:<\/strong> Colorado signs free agent defenceman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gillto01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Todd Gill<\/a><\/strong> to a new deal. Gill plays one season in Denver before heading to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>.
