The Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> sign left-wing Oskar Lindblom<\/a><\/strong> to a three-year contract extension worth three million a season.<\/p>\n

Flyers extend Oskar Lindblom<\/a><\/h2>\n

Lindblom started this season playing for the Flyers. He scored 11 goals, seven assists for 18 points in 30 games. In December<\/a> he was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer called Ewing’s sarcoma that ended his season. Lindblom underwent cancer treatment in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

On July 2nd, Lindblom completed his last radiation treatment and the medical team said Linblom doesn’t have evidence of cancer in his body at this time.<\/p>\n

Lindblom was recently named a finalist<\/a> for the Bill Masterton<\/a> Memorial Trophy given to the athlete who shows the most perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to the game of hockey.<\/p>\n

During his treatments Lindblom was frequently visited his teammates and skated with them during NHL’s phase two of return to play. However, Lindblom is not on the Flyers roster for the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia drafted Lindblom 138th overall in the 2014 draft.\u00a0 He joined the Flyers during the 2017-18 season scoring 34 points in 54 games in the AHL and six points in 23 games in the NHL. The next season, Lindblom became a regular NHL player and scored 33 points in 81 games.<\/p>\n

In a press release<\/a> here is Lindblom’s reaction to signing with the Flyers.<\/p>\n

“I am very excited to be a part of the Flyers for the next three seasons,” said Lindblom. “The support that the organization, the fans, and the entire NHL has given me has been quite overwhelming. I can’t wait to get back skating with the boys and being the professional hockey player I know I can be. I want to thank the Flyers for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to the day I’m back and contributing to the team’s success.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What this means for the Future<\/h3>\n

Lindblom will not be on the Flyers roster when the playoffs begin. Philadelphia is one of eight NHL teams who have automatically qualified for the playoffs without having to play in the play-in round. This signing doesn’t impact the Flyers in the immediate future in terms of on ice action. It could be a good morale boost for the team considering what Lindblom has gone through.<\/p>\n

For next season, Lindblom should be a top-six left-winger for the Flyers. The 23-year-old is also a part of the youth movement in Philadelphia with Travis Konecny<\/a><\/strong>, Nolan Patrick<\/a><\/strong>, Joel Farabee<\/a><\/strong>, Morgan Frost<\/a><\/strong>, Nicolas Aube-Kubel<\/a><\/strong>, Ivan Provorov<\/a><\/strong>, Travis Sanheim<\/a><\/strong>, Philippe Myers<\/a><\/strong>, Robert Hagg<\/a><\/strong> and Carter Hart<\/a><\/strong> are all under the age of 25.<\/p>\n
