The Throwing Haymakers Podcast is a new venture by Last Word on Hockey writers Mathieu Sheridan<\/a>, Brandon Higley-Blair<\/a>, and Josh Erickson<\/a>. Discussing everything from playoffs to podcasts, Throwing Haymakers provides a fresh, new view on the current state of hockey.<\/em><\/p>\n

In the debut episode of the Throwing Haymakers Podcast, Mat, Brandon, and Josh offer their predictions for the Eastern Conference Qualifying Round Series. They also give their insight into the potential outcome of the Eastern Round Robins, as well as discuss the award nominees for the Calder and Jack Adams<\/a> trophies.<\/p>\n

In the East, most fans have their heads turned towards two intriguing qualifying round matchups. The series between the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> and Columbus Blue Jackets<\/a> projects to be a spectacular display. The matchup between a terrific Toronto offence led by\u00a0Auston Matthews<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0William Nylander<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and a stingy Columbus defence led by\u00a0Zach Werenski<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Seth Jones<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>makes for maybe one of the best playoff series this year has to offer.<\/p>\n

The matchup between the Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> and Montreal Canadiens<\/a> isn’t to be overlooked, either.\u00a0Sidney Crosby<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Evgeni Malkin<\/a><\/strong> look to capitalize on an incredibly weak Montreal defence.\u00a0Carey Price<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>looks to keep the Habs in a competitive series.<\/p>\n

Josh, Brandon, and Mat also offer their opinions on the Calder and Jack Adams Trophy nominees. They look into why surprise nomination\u00a0Dominik Kubalik<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>found himself on the list, as well as how close the\u00a0Cale Makar<\/a><\/strong>\/Quinn Hughes<\/a><\/strong> debate truly is. They also examine the merits of the nominated coaches.\u00a0Deciding between two great success stories in\u00a0John Tortorella\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Alain Vigneault<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>will be a difficult task for PHWA members.<\/p>\n

Next week, the Throwing Haymakers crew plans to do another playoff deep dive. This time, they’ll look at the Western Conference playoff matchups.<\/p>\n
