Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for July 6th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/forsbpe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Peter Forsberg<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Peter Forsberg Wins Calder Trophy<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1995:<\/strong> The Quebec Nordiques (who just finalized a move to Denver to become the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colorado Avalanche<\/a>) wins the top rookie honour. He nets 15 goals and 50 points in 47 games during the lockout-shortened season. The Swede helps Quebec get the top seed in the Eastern Conference before being shocked by the defending champion <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> in round one.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flyers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lindrer01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eric Lindros<\/a><\/strong>, who was part of the trade involving Forsberg, wins the Hart Trophy. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/francro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ron Francis<\/a><\/strong> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> wins the Selke Trophy for best defensive forward. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> defenceman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/coffepa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Coffey<\/a><\/strong> takes the Norris Trophy for the third and final time.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Peter Forsberg #21 (Quebec Nordiques) first NHL goal Jan 27, 1995  (Classic NHL)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WCQapiP4kfc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1978:<\/strong> Philadelphia names <strong>Bob McCammon<\/strong> as the team&#8217;s new head coach. He replaces <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sherofr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fred Shero<\/a><\/strong> behind the bench.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1988:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Minnesota North Stars<\/a> name <strong>Pierre Page<\/strong> as the team&#8217;s fifth head coach in five years. He replaces former Team USA coach <strong>Herb Brooks<\/strong>, who was fired three years earlier.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1983:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins<\/a> sign forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/courtge01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Geoff Courtnall<\/a><\/strong> after his career with the Victoria Cougars of the WHL. He went on to star with the Bruins, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/oilers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/capitals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Capitals<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Blues<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1994:<\/strong> Quebec hires <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/crawfma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marc Crawford<\/a><\/strong> as its new head coach. He replaces Page and helps the newly moved Colorado team win its first Stanley Cup.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1998:<\/strong> The Flyers sign free-agent goalie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/v\/vanbijo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Vanbiesbrouck<\/a><\/strong>, who had been with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Florida Panthers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/predators\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nashville Predators<\/a> sign free-agent forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/fitzgto01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Fitzgerald<\/a> to a contract. He&#8217;s named the expansion team&#8217;s first captain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2000:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/capitals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Capitals<\/a> sign free agent <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cotesy01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sylvain Cote<\/a><\/strong>, who played for the team before from 1991-98. Cote plays his final three seasons with the team before ending his career.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2001:<\/strong> Boston signs left winger <strong>Rob Zaumer<\/strong>, who lasts three seasons with the club before finishing his career in Europe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2004:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/senators\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ottawa Senators<\/a> sign free-agent goalie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hasekdo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dominik Hasek<\/a><\/strong>. He only stays with the Sens for one season as he heads back to Detroit for the 2005-06 season.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phoenix Coyotes<\/a> sign <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/o\/odonnse01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sean O&#8217;Donnell<\/a>,<\/strong> who was with Boston for three seasons.
