We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for July 4th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/parisza01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zach Parise<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/suterry01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Suter<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Happy Fourth of July to our American readers.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Zach Parise, Ryan Suter Sign Long-Term with Wild<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2012:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/wild\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Wild<\/a> make a big splash in free agency with the signings of the duo for 13 years each. Parise and Suter each take three days to sign in the state of hockey after mulling multiple offers. The hometown boy, Parise, is coming off a 31-goal season with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/devils\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Jersey Devils<\/a>. Suter has spent the last seven seasons with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/predators\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nashville Predators<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, success has not come to the Wild in the playoffs. Minnesota has never advanced further than the second round of the postseason since the duo was signed.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1979:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> name <strong>Punch Imlach<\/strong> as their general manager for a second time. He replaces <strong>Jim Gregory<\/strong> in the role.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1984:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quebec Nordiques<\/a> sign former Vezina Trophy-winning goalie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sevigri01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Richard Sevigny<\/a><\/strong>. He took the league&#8217;s top goalie award in 1981.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1994:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Blues<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flames\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calgary Flames<\/a> pull off a swap of future Hall of Fame defencemen. St. Louis gets<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/macinal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Al MacInnis<\/a><\/strong> while Calgary receives <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/houslph01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phil Housley<\/a><\/strong> in return. MacInnis retires with the Blues after the 2003-04 season while Housley has two separate stints with the Flames.<\/p>\n<p>Calgary also signs goalie<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rolosdw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dwayne Roloson<\/a><\/strong> to a contract. The free agent played college hockey with UMass-Lowell.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2000:<\/strong> The Maple Leafs sign free agent forwards <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/roberga01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gary Roberts<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/corsosh01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shayne Corson<\/a><\/strong>. Roberts signs a three-year, $8 million contract while Corson scored a <span class=\"ILfuVd c3biWd\"><span class=\"e24Kjd\">three-year, $6.75 million<\/span><\/span> deal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2001:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Montreal Canadiens<\/a> sign free agent <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/perreya01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yanic Perreault<\/a><\/strong> to a deal. He leads the team in scoring with 56 points in the 2001-02 season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2007:<\/strong> Sochi, Russia was announced as the host of the 2014 Winter Olympics. That tournament was the last one to have NHL players as they weren&#8217;t allowed to participate in 2018.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2013:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Boston Bruins<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dallas Stars<\/a> pull off a major seven-player trade. Dallas gets <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/seguity01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyler Seguin<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><span id=\"token-959C877103A15885B9DAF\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/peverri01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rich Peverley<\/a><\/span><\/strong><span id=\"token-959C877103A15885B9DAF\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\">,<\/span> and <strong>Ryan Button<\/strong>. Boston receives <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/erikslo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Loui Eriksson<\/a><\/strong> and prospects <strong>Joe Morrow<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/smithre01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reilly Smith<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><span id=\"token-6C2EC4E979C32C8573D85\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/frasema02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Fraser<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.
