We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for June 28th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/drydeke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ken Dryden<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Ken Dryden Picked Up by Canadiens<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1964:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> acquire the future Hall of Famer in a trade with the rival <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins<\/a>. Boston deals the 16-year-old with <strong>Alex Campbell<\/strong> for <strong>Guy Allen<\/strong> and <strong>Paul Reid<\/strong>. Dryden decides to go to college to play for Cornell University, where he goes 76-4-1 in three seasons with the Big Red.<\/p>\n<p>He debuts late in the 1970-71 seasons and wins all six games. The Hamilton, Ontario native then wins 12 of his 20 starts to help the Habs win the Stanley Cup. Dryden earns the Conn Smythe Trophy for MVP and then wins the Calder the next season. He wins another Cup in 1973 and backstops the Canadiens to four straight titles in 1976-79.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1979:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Winnipeg Jets<\/a> trade <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hisloja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jamie Hislop<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/leggeba01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Barry Legge<\/a><\/strong> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quebec Nordiques<\/a> for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/melroba01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Barry Melrose<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1985:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Detroit Red Wings<\/a> sign undrafted college free agent centre <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/o\/oatesad01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adam Oates<\/a><\/strong>. He played three seasons at RPI and won the Engineers a national championship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1990:<\/strong> Boston obtains <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nilanch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Nilan<\/a><\/strong> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/j\/johnsgr02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Greg Johnson<\/a><\/strong> and future considerations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/devils\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Jersey Devils<\/a> hire <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lemaija01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacques Lemaire<\/a><\/strong> as head coach, replacing Herb Brooks. Lemaire takes the Devils to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final in the first season. New Jersey then wins its first Stanley Cup in 1995.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1994:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Florida Panthers<\/a> take <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/j\/jovaned01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ed Jovanovski<\/a><\/strong> with the top overall pick of the draft. However, the big news of that day is the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> and the Nordiques make a blockbuster trade. The Leafs send <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/clarkwe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wendel Clark<\/a>, S<span id=\"token-6911C35A0CC91AA24B08E\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\">ylvain Lefebvre<\/span>, Landon Wilso<\/strong>n and the No. 12 pick to the Nordiques. Quebec deals <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sundima01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mats Sundin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/butchga01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Garth Butcher<\/a>, <\/strong><span id=\"token-C0F201B21EE0E71BD6AAF\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/warrito01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Todd Warriner<\/a><\/strong> and the 16th pick. Sundin becomes Toronto&#8217;s highest-scoring player with 987 points and becomes a Hall of Fame.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2007:<\/strong> The Hockey Hall of Fame announces its class, including four first-year eligible players. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/messima01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Messier<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/francro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ron Francis<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/macinal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Al MacInnis<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stevesc01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scott Stevens<\/a><\/strong> are selected in the first year on the ballot.
