A placeholder team has emerged as the lucky winners of this year&#8217;s first overall pick. As NHL Deputy Commissioner <strong>Bill Daly\u00a0<\/strong>announced, The Detroit Red Wings were tonight&#8217;s biggest losers, as they slipped from #1 to #4 overall, missing out on a top-three pick. The Los Angeles Kings moved up into a top-three spot as they look to accelerate their rebuild.<\/p>\n<h2>Placeholder Team Gets First Overall Pick<\/h2>\n<p>An unknown team will be picking first overall this draft, and a second draft lottery will have to be held at the conclusion of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Here is the draft order as it currently stands:<\/p>\n<p>1.) TBD<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s presumptive first overall pick is\u00a0<strong>Alexis Lafreniere<\/strong>. The left-wing from the QMJHL&#8217;s Rimouski Oceanic has turned heads for the past few seasons, as he looks to be one of <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2020\/04\/14\/alexis-lafreniere-scouting-report-2020-nhl-draft-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the NHL&#8217;s next elite talents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other top forwards in the draft include centre\u00a0<strong>Quinton Byfield<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2020\/04\/15\/quinton-byfield-scouting-report-2020-nhl-draft-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">from the OHL&#8217;s Sudbury Wolves<\/a> and\u00a0<strong>Tim Stutzle\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2020\/04\/16\/tim-stutzle-scouting-report-2020-nhl-draft\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">from the DEL&#8217;s Adler Mannheim<\/a>. They&#8217;re both projected to be top-three picks as well. The best defence prospect heading into the draft is\u00a0<strong>Jamie Drysdale<\/strong>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2020\/04\/17\/jamie-drysdale-scouting-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">right-shot force from the Erie Otters<\/a>, also in the OHL. The top-ranked goalie is <strong>Yaroslav Askarov<\/strong>, a Russian netminder who <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2020\/04\/23\/yaroslav-askarov-scouting-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">put up a stellar performance<\/a> at this past year&#8217;s World Junior Championships.
