We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for June 25th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lundqhe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henrik Lundqvist<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Rangers Take <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lundqhe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henrik Lundqvist<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><strong>2000:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> New York Rangers<\/a> find their goalie of the future in the seventh round. Lundqvist is picked with the 205th overall selection after the Rangers don&#8217;t have a first-round choice. The Blueshirts also don&#8217;t find much help in rounds 2-6. Lundqvist was playing with Frolunda in the Swedish Hockey League.<\/p>\n<p>He doesn&#8217;t arrive on Broadway until 2005, but he makes an impact. &#8220;Hank&#8221; becomes a staple in the lineup and bails the Rangers out time and again. He is the team leader in wins with 459. Lundqvist wins the Vezina Trophy in 2012 and leads the team to the Stanley Cup Final in 2014.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1992:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> hire <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/beverni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Beverley<\/a><\/strong> as general manger and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/melroba01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Barry Melrose<\/a><\/strong> as head coach. Los Angeles makes its first Stanley Cup Final in 1993. However, Beverley leaves in May 1994 and Melrose is fired in 1995.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993:<\/strong> The Hockey Hall of Fame class is announced. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/islanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Islanders<\/a> goalie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/smithbi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Billy Smith,<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/shuttst01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steve Shutt<\/a><\/strong> and defenceman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lapoigu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guy Lapointe<\/a><\/strong> earn spots. Rangers centre <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lapraed01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edgar Laprade<\/a><\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/sabres\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buffalo Sabres<\/a> owner <strong>Seymour Knox<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a> owner <strong>Frank Griffiths<\/strong> are added in the Builders category.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1997:<\/strong> The NHL agrees to expand to 30 teams with the addition of four new teams. It&#8217;s another round of expansion from 21 teams in 1991. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/predators\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nashville Predators<\/a> come into the league in 1998-99 while the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlanta Thrashers<\/a> join the next season. Both the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/wild\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Wild<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blue-jackets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Columbus Blue Jackets<\/a> start in 2000-01.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1998:<\/strong> The Board of Governors creates the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/richama01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maurice Richard<\/a><\/strong> Trophy for the league&#8217;s top goal-scorer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2010:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/oilers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> draft <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=hallta02,hallta01&amp;search=Taylor+Hall&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Taylor Hall<\/a><\/strong> with the top pick of the 2010 NHL Draft. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/seguity01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyler Seguin<\/a><\/strong> goes second overall to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>2019:<\/strong> Former <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dallas Stars<\/a> teammates <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/z\/zubovse01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sergei Zubov<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/carbogu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guy Carbonneau<\/a><\/strong> are both selected for the Hall of Fame.
