Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for June 19th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hullbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brett Hull<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Brett Hull Wins Stanley Cup in Triple OT<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1999:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Dallas Stars<\/a> forward&#8217;s controversial goal helps the team win its first championship. Hull beats <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hasekdo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dominik Hasek<\/a><\/strong> as the Stars beat the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/sabres\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buffalo Sabres<\/a>, 2-1, in Game 6. Questions surround the goal as his foot was in the crease. However, the officials say Hull is in possession of the puck and the goal counts.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QDfHXmWTE7U\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Stars franchise had lost in two previous trips to the final when they were based in Minnesota as the North Stars. That franchise lost in the 1981 and 1991. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nieuwjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Nieuwendyk<\/a><\/strong> wins the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1985:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> general manager <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/patricr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Craig Patrick<\/a><\/strong> heads back to the press box as he gives up coaching duties. <strong>Ted Sator<\/strong> is named the new Blueshirts&#8217; head coach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1990:<\/strong> Former <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> great <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gainebo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bob Gainey<\/a><\/strong> is named the new head coach of the North Stars. He would lead Minnesota to the Stanley Cup Final in his first season at the helm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1995: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sutteda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Darryl Sutter<\/a><\/strong> steps down as coach of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>. He compiled a record of 110-86-26 in his three seasons in charge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2000:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/wild\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Wild<\/a> name<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lemaija01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacques Lemaire<\/a><\/strong> as the team&#8217;s first head coach. Ward is the fourth rookie to earn the award after making 22 saves.
