Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for June 12th, featuring the 2018-19 <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St Louis Blues<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Ryan O&#8217;Reilly Helps 2018-19 St Louis Blues Win First Title<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2019:<\/strong> The Blues win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history with a 4-1 Game 7 win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/o\/oreilry01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan O&#8217;Reilly<\/a><\/strong> gets a goal and an assist for the Blues. <span data-sort-value=\"Pietrangelo, Alex\"><span class=\"vcard\"><span class=\"fn\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pietral01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Pietrangelo<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/schenbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brayden Schenn<\/a><\/strong>, and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sanfoza01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zach Sanford<\/a><\/strong> also add goals for the Blues. Rookie goalie<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/binnijo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Binnington<\/a><\/strong> made 32 saves to tie a record for wins in a postseason with 16. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_sLJmIge5jc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Reilly finishes with eight goals and 23 points in 26 games. St. Louis had reached the Final in their first three seasons (1968-70), but were swept all three times. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rasktu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tuukka Rask<\/a> <\/strong>made 16 saves, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/grzelma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Grzelcyk<\/a> <\/strong>scored for Boston.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1958:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> name <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/howego01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gordie Howe<\/a><\/strong> the team&#8217;s new captain. Howe serves as captain for the next four seasons before he&#8217;s named an assistant coach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1979: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/o\/orrbo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bobby Orr<\/a><\/strong> becomes the youngest elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. The 31-year-old&#8217;s three-year waiting period is waived after injuries limit his last three seasons. He led the league in scoring in 1974-75 with 135 points and won eight straight Norris Trophies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1985:<\/strong> Future <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> legend <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lemiema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mario Lemieux<\/a><\/strong> wins the Calder Trophy for the league&#8217;s top rookie.
