Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for June 8th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/modanmi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Modano<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/modanmi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Modano<\/a> Wins Longest 1-0 Stanley Cup Final Game<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2000:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dallas Stars<\/a> forward scores 6:21 into the third overtime in a 1-0 Game 5 over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/devils\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Jersey Devils<\/a>. Modano&#8217;s goal ends the longest 1-0 game in Stanley Cup Final history. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/belfoed01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ed Belfour<\/a><\/strong> stops 48 shots for the Stars as they extend the series and keep their repeat hopes alive. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brodema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Martin Brodeur<\/a><\/strong> stopped 40 of 41 shots for the Devils.<\/p>\n<p>The Devils would finish off the series in the Lone Star State with a 2-1 double-overtime victory. New Jersey would hoist their second Stanley Cup and first since 1995. Defenceman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stevesc01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scott Stevens<\/a><\/strong> would take home the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1955:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> name <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/blaketo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toe Blake<\/a><\/strong> as their new head coach. Blake, real first name Hector, wins eight titles in 13 seasons in charge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1983:<\/strong> The Minnesota North Stars take <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lawtobr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brian Lawton<\/a><\/strong> with the first overall pick of the draft. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/turgesy01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sylvain Turgeon<\/a><\/strong> would go second to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/hurricanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hartford Whalers<\/a> while <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lafonpa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pat LaFontaine<\/a><\/strong> goes third to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/islanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Islanders<\/a>.
