Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for June 2nd, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gigueje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jean-Sebastien Giguere<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Jean-Sebastien Giguere Gets Another OT Playoff Win<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2003:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/ducks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Mighty Ducks of Anaheim<\/a> goalie is the first to win his first seven overtime games. Giguere makes 26 saves in the 1-0 win in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/devils\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Jersey Devils<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/thomast01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steve Thomas<\/a><\/strong> scores 39 seconds into the extra session to give Anaheim the win.<\/p>\n<p>Giguere and the Mighty Ducks would end up losing the Final in seven games. However, he would be the fifth player from a losing team to win the Conn Smythe for playoff MVP. He&#8217;s the last player to accomplish that feat.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1948:<\/strong> The NHL decides to turn the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rossar01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Art Ross<\/a> Trophy into a scoring championship instead of most outstanding player. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lachel01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elmer Lach<\/a><\/strong> is the first winner of the award with 61 points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1972:<\/strong> The new Atlanta hockey team is given the name Flames. It comes from Mickey Goodman, a 19-year-old college student at DeKalb University. The team moves to Alberta to become the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flames\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calgary Flames<\/a> in 1980.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2000: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gretzwa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne Gretzky<\/a><\/strong> is named Managing Director of Hockey Operations of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phoenix Coyotes<\/a>. Gretzky has 10-percent stake in the team and would later become the team&#8217;s coach.<\/p>\n<p>New Jersey beats the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colorado Avalanche<\/a>, 3-2, in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final. The Devils limit the Avalanche to 12 shots in the victory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2008: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=sykorpe01,sykorpe02&amp;search=Petr+Sykora&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Petr Sykora<\/a><\/strong> scores 9:57 into the third overtime to help the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> beat the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a>, 4-3. It&#8217;s the fifth-longest game in a Stanley Cup Final as the Penguins take Game 5.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2012: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/carteje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeff Carter<\/a><\/strong> scores 13:42 into overtime as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> beat New Jersey, 2-1, in Game 2. It&#8217;s the Kings second straight OT win to take a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2013:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> score the first four goals to beat Los Angeles, 4-2, in Game 2 of the Western Conference Final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2018: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/holtbbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Braden Holtby<\/a><\/strong> makes 21 saves in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/capitals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Capitals<\/a> 3-1 Game 3 win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/knights\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vegas Golden Knights<\/a>.
